My favorite saddle horse is my Arabian-Quarter Horse filly named Sassy. A Christmas present from my husband, the little sorrel (14.3 hands) was purchased at auction November 23, 1997. We've had our ups and downs (two black eyes, a broken nose and broken thumb -- mine, not hers) but she's comin' along fine now and I've learned to stay in the saddle. This photo was taken November 25, 1997, when she was turning four and I just slightly older. ;-)
My favorite haunt is Silver City. Established in 1863, Silver was the first county seat of Owyhee county, Idaho Territory. One of the richest mining areas in the nation, Silver was the first city in Idaho to have electricity and when Idaho applied for statehood in 1890, was nearly chosen over Boise [City] as state capitol. If you haven't, you may want to view an old photo of the Idaho Hotel, or read the Wells Fargo poster that hung there: Stagecoach Etiquette
is made from photos taken on the ranch by my grandmother. The lamp, custom made by a cousin, is hand-carved driftwood with the Rafter-H brand inlaid on it. Its mate's inlay is of the 7 Lazy-H. These were just two of several brands registered to my grandfolks while they lived and ranched in Malheur county, Oregon.
