Along Owyhee trails we rode
and so in love were we, that
when each fleeting day was done
we'd take the long way home.

Hand in hand we'd waltz,
and when each dance was through,
gallop our horses among the sage,
then take the long way home.

One day you rode on without me,
though to a better place, I know,
I wished I might have come with you
to ride that long way home.

The moments turned into years;
my longing grew the stronger.
Our time together past, my love,
that long way home seemed longer.

The lonely wait now done,
we meet beyond time and sunset
to ride throughout eternity...
let's take the long way home.

To those who have gone before us, may you soar with eagles.
