Grandfather (Father of my father)

Orrin was born in Shannon City, Iowa, and was the youngest of 6 children. He spent his youth on the family farm in Nebraska. At nearly 5 foot tall, he was one of the biggest men on earth -- big-hearted, that is. We grandchildren can testify to that. Although there were 28 of us, he never failed to send each one a birthday card every year. Inside was always money. Though as the years passed, and his income was reduced to a small monthly social security check, the amount included was only a dollar bill...it meant all the more. For we knew that along with that single dollar bill came a million dollars worth of love.

At the Tallman family reunion held in Grandview, Idaho, we share a hug. The highlight of the day was when Grandpa, then 91, recited poetry from memory. I honestly can't remember the poem, but Grandpa didn't miss a lick.

Grandpa loved to garden, and not only did he tend his own, but also kept up the yard and flower garden of my dad and stepmother. He was especially proud of his roses.

Although the times that I got to spend with my father's parents were few, I'd like to share some of my Precious Memories.
