Parking Problems
As i sit here this morning in front of the computer I'm thinking the ever increasing problem of parking for truckers or the lack of proper parking for truckers. The biggest problem I see is with the states closing down some of the reast ares on the high ways and biways of our great nation. Why they are doing this i truly don't know but what i do know is that is dangerous for both truckers and automobile drivers . If we dont have a safe place to stop then they are just asking for a bad accident to happen.
Well if you personaly don't drive on the interstates then you think then i dont have anything to worry about you are wrong. You family members do ie.grandparents uncles niece's,nephew do. As near as I can figure the average truck pays around $6,000 in road use taxes and around .06 cents per gallon in fuel taxes that is alot of money to sit thier and say we are closing some of the rest areas because it cost to much to operate.
The other problem is that when we go to deliver a load and we are a couple of hours early thier is generaly no where for us to park so we go to a shopping mall some where to sleep or shop only to find a security gaurd telling us we have to move or be towed where is the fairness in that all we are trying to do is be safe but we cant .Let me tell you a true story real quick their is a mall by my house that has been closed for 4 years a trucker parked his trailer their for a couple of hours when i drove by it i saw a tow truck hooking up to it to tow it away I stopped to see if i could by some time for the drive to get back then the manager come out and ask what i was doing holding up the tow truck and i told her very politly and she started to get very rude with me well i stalled just engough for the driver to return and all was ok. Now that mall is nothing but a pile of rocks and rubble now so what i want to know is why were they going to tow the truck and trailer it makes no sense to me but then again not to much does.
Truck stops are not like gas stations where thier is one on ever corner theye are generaly 100 to 300 miles apart at best.So why not let trucks park on your lot if it is big engough and you aren't that busy?
What can you do your asking your self contact your elected officals and ask them why are we closing the rest areas with out them we are all putting our lives on the line who knows instead of Parents against tired truckers it will be Parant against tired passanger vehicles. So please contact your local officals and see what their plans are this is another slap in the face for everyone that drives on the interstates.
