In the name of God Amen March the fifteen Seventeen hundred & sixteen, I, John Hollowell of the County of Norfolk in the Colony of Virginia being Sick in body but praised be to God in perfect and sound memory doe make and ordaine this my Last will and Testament in manner and forme following (viz). In the first place I recommend my soule to God the giver trusting in the meritorious satisfaction and suffering of my dear and loveing Saviour Jesus Christ to receive redemption for the same and since it is appointed once for all to die I commend my body to the earth in a decent christian manner at the discretion of my Exectx hereafter named and as for worldly estate it hath pleased God to bestow upon me in his mercy I give and bequeath in manner & forme following. Att a Court held ye 17th day of July 1719. Certificate of administration____ setting will annexation upon ye petition of Mr. Lyonell Readen setting forth __ the estate of Jno. Hollowell dec'd stands justly indebted unto him ye sum of one thousand three hundred and thirty six pounds of tobacco and one thousand __ and two bushels and a half of salt and __ the same by his oath and its there upon ordered that Joseph Russell and Mary his wife Exors. of ye sd decedant pay ye said sum out of ye sdaid decedant's estate. Nuncupative will of Joseph Russell - Book H, p. 170, Dated 12 Mch. 1745. Joseph Russell ...made a verbal Will before Capt. Willis Wilson, Junr. and William Shergold in the following Words: I give my personal Estate to my son Josiah Russell and Mallachi Russell and my Daughter Mary Richards and if my son Mallachi should not return home or live his part to be divided between Josiah and Mary. Item I give and bequeath unto my son John the land that I had by my brother William Hollowell in Virginia and all the rest of my land in Virginia to him and his heirs for ever. Item I constitut and appoint my loving wife Elizabeth Hollowell my whole and soall Executrix during her widowhood and that she return a just and true inventory of all my personabl estate the next court after the will is proved and in cease of her maring then I do apoint my eldest son John to be my executor and to make an Equall division of all my Estate that can be found acording to the inventory between his Mother and what children is then alive. I Sarah Hollowell, widow of Thomas Hollowell late of Norfolk County deceased being sick but Thanks be to Almighty God of perfect sense & sound memory i doe ordain this to be my Last will and Testament. Firstly, I recommend my soul into the hands of the Almighty God that gave it me. Second, I give & recommend my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like & decent manner at ye discretion of my Executor. And as touching what few worldly goods it hath been please the Lord to bless me with I give and despense of in the manner and form as followeth. 1stly I will & desire that all my lawfull & just debt should be sattisfied & paid. 2dly I give & bequeath unto my son Absolom Hollowell my stilyards & ten shillings in money. 3dly I give & bequeath unto my daughter Mary Bacon my trunnel bead beadstead & furniture, one gllon stone jugg, and thirty shillings in money. 4thly I give & bequeath unto my daughter chareitye sanders forty shillings in money, one pair of sheets & four yards of cotton cloth. 5thly I give & bequeath unto my son Samuel Hollowell one pair of sheets. 6thly I give & bequeath unto my son Demcy Scutchens Hollowell one three gallon iron pott and hooks, one iron spitt, one iron pestle & three pounds in money. 7thly I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my estate to be sold to the best advantage & the money to be equally divided between my two sons Samuel Hollowell & Demcy Scutchens Hollowell provided my son Samuel Hollowell returns from the sea again. And if he does not the money aforesaid to be equally divided between my two sons Absalom & Demcy Scutchens & my daughter Mary Bacon. 8thly I doe ordain substitute and appoint my son-in-law Richard Bacon, Junior to be my whole & sole executor of this my last will & testament, hereby making void and disanulling all other wills and testaments heretofore by me made as witness my hand and seal this the 1st day of November 1758. Item I give and bequeath unto my welbeloved daughter Bridged Hollowell to her and her heirs for ever, one piece of land that is for to say that of Slacks which now Dayley Latter lives on with two hundred acres thereto. Item I give and bequeath to that child as my wife is with child now whether son or daughter to it and it heirs for ever two hundred acres of land it beginning at the mouth of the Maple Branch so running the upper side of the said branch even against the white oak noiele then turning to the head to the head line to make up the said compliment of land to it, and it heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Bridget Hollowell the use of all my estate both real and personal during her widdowhood and if she my aforesaid wife mary, then for all to be equally divided.
