Carolyn's Quilts

Quilting has always been my favorite hobby.  I've gone through periods of knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and cross-stitch, but I've never been bored with quilting.  My first attempt at quiltmaking was back in the 70's when I coordinated a surprise quilt for a co-worker's baby shower.  We embroidered 4" blocks of a pale yellow poly/cotton blend and I alternated the decorated blocks with plain squares.  The hardest part was trying to figure out how to put in the corner block of the border after I had sewn on the border strips.

Applique is my favorite technique, but currently I've been enjoying crazy quilting.  What makes crazy quilting fun for me is the crocheting, knitting, tatting,  embroidery and the fact that you don't have to match points!

Karen's Bearpaw Quilt

During Karen's senior year in high school, we shopped everywhere for fabrics for this quilt.  Most were found in cities where she played in softball tournaments and some were sent to me by internet friends.  It now resides in her dorm room at Cal Poly.

I think we achieved the bright, scrappy look we were after.  Karen chose the bear paw pattern after looking through many  quilt books.  The blocks are 6".  The border fabrics are from the Red Sea collection

Maxine's Crazy Quilt Wallhanging

This wallhanging was made for my mother-in-law, Maxine McCray, for Mother's Day in 1997.  I started the quilt in 1996 using fabrics and embellishments I had received from a cq swap on Prodigy.  Twelve 8" blocks were pieced, sewed together into three strips of four blocks, and embellished.  The 4" border is crazy-patched with embellishments done in white or cream only.  The embellishments for the blocks are pastels, but I used lavender more often since that is Maxine's favorite color.  For close-ups, click on photo.
