Nancy Allen gave me this needlecase for my birthday last year. Isn't it lovely? Opened flat it measures 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. The lace flowers on the antique lace in the upper right hand corner are appliqued, giving the lace a dimensional look. Nancy tatted the butterfly - I've blatantly copied it several times for blocks I've exchanged.
The floral group is done in size 3 and 5 perle cottons, 4 and 7mm silk ribbons with beads and a brass charm. The pink silk roses are amazingly tiny cabbage roses. The free-flowing branch is a feather stitch with french knots and flower beads added.
Wild Things
This is a portion of the block I did for a black and white challenge our quilt guild has this year. I took the block and made it into the cover for a needlework organizer. The back cover is made up of four courthouse blocks using the same fabrics.
Close-up of flying "wild things". The one in pink is done with bullion, stem, french knot, and turkey stitches using Glory (a fine Brazilian thread).
