NOTES FROM THE GROUP MEETINGS 2002 Contributed by Suzanne Hamilton

Our first meeting for the year was held on Saturday 20th February. The topic was scanning, presented by David Whitehouse. He demonstrated the art of cropping photographs for their various uses, and also the enlarging of family snaps to obtain otherwise unnoticeable clues to put names to faces, location, probable date etc.

The 9th March meeting was a presentation by Paul Ashton on Family Tree Maker. Paul answered many questions from the floor, in some cases encountering applications that he had not before used. The presentation was of general interest to all the group, as much of it applied to most genealogical programmes.

Xavier Jones was the presenter at our April meeting. His topic was "Computer Advances" and what was in store for us in the near and distant future. A lively discussion was held on the differing requirements of individual computer uses.

For our meeting on 11th May, our Web Master, Susan Simmons, took us step by step through the construction of a web page and handed out a comprehensive set of notes. Susan will give the second part of her presentation on 13th July.

NEXT MEETING
Jan Gow will be the speaker at our meeting on 8th June. Her topic will be how to prepare for doing research away from home, both electronic and paper based. It promises to be a very interesting session.
