At the age of eighteen Isaac Eaves ``became one of the boy-soldiers of Indiana, enlisting in Company F of the Thirty-fourth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and was a soldier until the close of the struggle, participating in the last general engagement of the war.'' He was ``the owner of a nice farm of fifty acres, two miles south and a quarter mile west of Swayzee, on the township line between Green and Sims Township.''
