Joseph's relative Dennis Starbuck provides the following:
```Father Joe,' as I remember him, was a Catholic priest serving in the
diocese of Denver but also served some in Nebraska and Arizona. He was
a real character who just loved to talk. He loved flying and I recall
at one time he sold his car in order to buy an airplane. He flew
without instrumentation or radio. I recall his telling how one plane
was so small that he had to carry anything he wanted during the flight
in his shirt pockets because he could not get his hands into his
pant's pockets.''
``Father Joe was pastor at the church in Ouray, CO, sometime in the
early 1940s. Ouray is high in the Rocky Mountains around Durango and
Silverton. I recall his telling about skiing from town to town since
that was the only way to travel during the winter. My mother says that
he was called the `Skiing Padre.' In his later years he was at the
Mullen Home (for the infirm) in Denver.''
Father Joseph was the pastor at Yarnell, Arizona in the 1960s. While there, he corresponded with his (second) cousin, Cleo McDermott of De Witt, Iowa who came to visit him.
