In his brother's John's obit, William is living in La Mesa, CA. William's obituary mentions a wife Sarah, died June 24, 1971. But I've only heard of the obituary 3rd hand, so I'm not positive about the facts in it. Exact birth and death dates from the matching CA death index.

There is an Ethel Gilchrist in the 1910 census living as a boarder with the James Slocum family in English River Township of Keokuk Co. She's been married 3 years, but her husband isn't listed with her, but it seems like this Ethel.

I believe it is this same Ethel Mae King who married Warren L. Stull in 1910 in Sigourney, a daughter of John King, for whom we have an obituary. The only fact which doesn't fit is that Ethel's age is given as 19 for her 1907 marriage to William Gilchrist. But Ethel Gilchrist's age of 19 in the 1910 census fits the Aug. 6, 1890 birthdate of Ethel (King) Stull given in her obituary, so I believe it is all the same person, with an incorrect birthdate on her Gilchrist marriage application.
