William received Bounty land Warrant 14663-160-50, as he was the only minor heir of his father Amaziah Morgan, and this bounty was for service in the War of 1812.

He apparently used this land warrant to buy land in Clay Co., Illinois. He is listed as the original land owner of 280 acres there registered 19 March 1853. The land includes parts of Section 34, Twp 4N, range 6E: 160 acres SWNW; 40 acres NWSW; and 80 acres S2SW. William H. Morgan also bought 80 acres in Section 7 Twp 2N, range 5E on Jan 28, 1853.
