According to her daughter Alice's biography, Nancy Jane and William met while they were both teaching school in Keokuk Co.
Nancy and William farmed in Lafayette township of Keokuk County at least through 1880. At some point, they moved to Des Moines. Most of their children attended Drake University, so they may have moved there as a family to allow their children that opportunity. William is listed in Des Moines City directories in 1892 (as a janitor) and 1894 (retired).
Nancy and William either moved to California or took an extended trip there in 1903. While at Long Beach they met a Mr. Overton who was 106 years old and used to own the land where the town of Delta, Iowa is. They wrote an article describing it to some Keokuk County newspaper.
From their daughter Etta's obituary, it appears they settled out in California for a time. But they had returned to Des Moines by the time William died. Nancy and William must have done a good job of teaching her children the Christian values of her father (TQ). Of their family of 7 children, 6 of them attended Drake University and 5 either became ministers or a minister's wife in the Christian Church. This is a pretty amazing record for a family of children growing up on a farm in Keokuk County, Iowa in the 1870s.
Nancy and William's granddaughter, Wilma (Wickizer) Rodgers put together a lot of records on Nancy and William's descendents, including one manuscript done in about 1980 which focused on the Wickizer descendents. These records provide the basis for most of the later descendents on this line.
