Lucy is next door to her mother in the 1850 census of Rush Co., Indiana. That's one of the best clues we have that it is this Lucy Matthews who married John Chism. Other clues also come from later censuses where various members of the Matthews and Chism families live very near to one another in Clinton and Huntington Counties, Indiana.

Other Chizum family researchers state that Lucy remarried in 1851 to John's brother James Chizum/Chism, who had also been widowed.
