Cynthia moved to Iowa in the 1860s.

There are several other Clemons families on the same census page in the 1870 census of Keokuk Co., Iowa, part of a big family group that all came to Iowa.

There is some uncertainty about the names of some the children of Cynthia and Willis. The 1870 census shows Cecilia and Mandeville. Willis' obit names surviving sons as Mac and Henry and notes that three children died young. Various family records agree that Mac was Mandeville's nickname. Pierson family records show the other two children as named Dwight and Bertha, while records of distantly related Clemons cousins show the final two children as Will (or Willis, Jr.) and Elizabeth.

Willis' migration pattern was a little out of the ordinary. He came to Iowa first, then went back to Indiana to marry Cynthia, and then returned with her to Iowa. Willis is on a 1852 tax list in Washington Co., Iowa with his father, Eleazar, and brothers Eleazar, Jr. and Ezra. Willis is also in the 1856 Iowa census in Washington Co., again with brothers Eleazar and Lewis. Dean Pierson's records showed that Cynthia died in Montana. At least one of Willis' brother's went to Montana.

According to Willis' obituary, the family moved from Washington County to Keokuk County (where they appear in the 1870 census). The family left Keokuk Co. and moved to Marion Co., Iowa where they lived for about 15 years. They then moved to Ringgold Co. about 9 years before Willis died (so about 1898). They lived for several years on a farm just west of Mt. Ayr and moved to Mt. Ayr about 1906. About that time Willis, ``had a serious fall and received serious injury to his person.'' ``He was practically an invalid during the last year'' of his life.
