James moved to Iowa in the 1860s according to some family records,
but he and his family settled in Linn Co., Kansas.
James' daughter Lucretia was born in Indiana in 1868 and his
son was born in March of 1870 in Kansas and his family is in Linn Co.,
Kansas in the 1870 census.
James was reputed to have been Artilleryman in the Union Army in the
Civil War, according to Henry Clay Pierson (passed along by Charles
Henry Pierson, who could find no record of it.)
