Cyril stayed with his grandmother frequently while younger while Agnes and Roland traveled because Roland was a minor league baseball player.
The following was written about Cyril by his son Mike:
Born as Cyril Otto Gruening, his mother divorced his father when he was about 4 yrs old and married (?) Roland Wolfe. He took the surname of his step-father and was generally known as Cyril Gruening Wolfe. He sometimes went by the name Cyril Jerome Wolfe. Jerome was the name he took at his Confirmation. He traveled with his mother and stepfather throughout the midwest and southwest, including Arizona, because his stepfather was a minor league baseball player with the Peoria, IL team. Where he went to school is unknown but it is doubtful he finished high school since he made no mention of it. He enjoyed craftwork and making things such as games and toys. He lived with his mother (a widow) at the time of his marriage and she remained in his household until his death in 1947. About 6 months before his death he joined Alcoholics Anonymous. In his speech, he was not known to use profanity nor to tell dirty jokes. He joined Alcoholics Anonymous on 9 Oct 1947. He is buried in Section A, Lot 158, Block 34. When he died, the following people/groups donated money.
