Moses Coy and his first wife Martha Ball (daughter of James and Rachel Culver Ball), are thought to be parents of John Coy, but there isn't positive proof of that, last I knew.
The Moses (and Martha) Coy family is listed in the 1830 census in Jackson Co., Indiana. In 1840 (still Jackson Co., I guess) Moses' family listed with two male and 1 female children. Martha apparently died between when the 1840 census was taken and 29 July 1841 when Moses remarried. One of their male children must have died and possibly the female from 1840. Moses and Martha had an infant daughter who was brought up by Martha's sister Margaret Ball King and her husband James. They stayed in Indiana when the Coys moved to Iowa. The daughter, Mary, age 9, is listed with James and Margaret King in the 1850 census in Vernon Twp, Jackson Co. Mary's age of 9 suggests that maybe Martha died in childbirth. Mary, age 19 is still living with the Kings in the 1860 census.
Moses McCoy is listed as one of the first four settlers of Adams Twp, Keokuk County, Iowa in the 1880 Keokuk Co. history.
