Heart to Heart
An Old Persian Fable
One day a wanderer found a lump of clay. It was so redolent of sweet perfume, it's fragrance scented all the room.
"What art thou?" was his quick demand. "Art thou some gum from samarkaard or spikenard in rude disguise or other costly merchandise?"
"Nay, I am but a lump of clay."
"Well, form whence this wondrous sweetness say?"
"Friend, the secret I will disclose. I have been dwelling with a rose."
(Jesus, our Rose of Sharon, 2 Corinthians 2:14: the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.)
