Deck The Halls

Craft & Decoration Ideas

We love to make Christmas Tree decorations. Over the years, the girls have made so many decorations while at school or the many clubs and groups they have been involved in, and together with me (Mom) at home. Below are a few of our favorites. We will add more as time allows us to work on the computer. If you can't follow the instructions, please don't hesitate to email ~Sheila~ and ask questions. Good Luck & Have Fun!

Please use caution and common sense when allowing children to make any of these crafts. Adult supervision is required!

LACE WREATHS
Items needed: thin lace of various kinds & colors; thin ribbon; hot glue gun; twist ties (from bread wrappers)
Directions: Use a knife or the scissors blade to scrape the plastic off of the twist tie to expose the wire. Thread the wire through a piece of lace (slightly longer than the wire). Form a circle and glue in place with the hot glue gun. With the ribbon tie a small bow and glue unto the lace circle. These are really cute, very simple to do, and takes practically no time to make. As an optional step, glue ribbon unto the edge of the lace before threading the wire. Then use the same color of ribbon for the bow or a contrasting color.

PUZZLE WREATHS
Items needed: puzzle pieces (the small pieces are best~from the 1000 piece puzzles), spray green paint, red puff paint, thin red ribbon, hot glue gun
Directions: Spread newspaper on work table. Use the green paint, spray back side of puzzle pieces (15 are needed for each wreath) allow to dry completely. Spray the front of each puzzle piece, leave to dry. Use five pieces and form a circle shape. Note; the five pieces do not touch. Take five more pieces, with the hot glue gun, glue a piece into each of the spaces, so that they are layered. Take the last five pieces and layer them again by glueing them unto the second layer spaces. With the ribbon, tie a bow and glue on the wreath. Then with the puff paint put three tiny dots together to make them look like holly berries. This craft is easy, but can be time consuming, but so cute they are worth it.

SANTA FACE SEA SHELLS
Items needed: small shells, paint colors of white, red, flesh & black or blue, paint brush
Directions:Make sure shell is clean and dry. Paint a Santa face, with red hat, use the blue or black for the eyes. Easy an adult, but due to the detail may be hard for a child.

LOLLIPOPS
Items needed: various colors of felt, popcicle stick, small piece of string, glue or hot glue gun, glitter paint or glue and glitter
Directions: Use a small glass to draw circles on the felt, cut them out, two circles of felt for each lollipop. Glue the popcicle stick and the small piece of string (made in a loop so that this will be the hanger) between the two felt circles. With the glitter paint, make circular motions around the felt so that it creates swirl, like a lollipop. Allow to dry completely and do the other side. If you are using glue and glitter, make swirls with the glue and then sprinkle with the glitter. Allow to dry and then do the other side. Children love to make this decoration.

PINE CONE TREES

Items needed: a pine cone, gold or green spray paint, plaster of paris, empty creamer container, puff paint, tiny beads, metalic stars or any small decorations
Directions: Spray paint the pine cone and allow it to dry. Put plaster of paris in the empty creamer and stick the pine cone in the soft plater and allow it to set until hard. Decorate your new little Christmas tree! Even the youngest children enjoy this craft.

HOME~MADE POPOURRI
Items needed:a small basket, various colors of ribbon, netting material, whole allspice, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks
Directions:Cut the netting in about 6x6 squares. Put a cinnamon stick, and a teaspoon each of allspice and cloves. Bring the corners of the square up and tie with a decorative ribbon. Make several and put them in a basket. Makes the kitchen and the whole house small wonderful.
