Did you ever stop to wonder
At the trouble and the strife,
That follows at the heels of man,
And hides the good in life?
Did you ever sit and ponder
At the fortunes of the few,
And grimly question why a bit
Was not reserved for you?

When you back is near to breaking,
With the burden that you bear,
Did you ever once consider
It's the same most everywhere?
The dawn of each new day is lost,
Beyond the shadowed ridges,
When men persist in building walls,
Who should be building bridges.
