Rejoining the team in Thailand
Spring 2002
In 1995, my brother, Steve, asked me to come to Bangkok to teach the children on their team for one year. After dragging my feet for almost five years and finding many excuses why I shouldn?t go, I finally gave in to God?s nudging and came to Bangkok in July of 2000. I tell people, "I thought I was coming to Thailand to teach children, but God brought me to Thailand to teach me!" I experienced God?s faithfulness as I adjusted to living in a foreign country; I witnessed first-hand nine people come to faith in God, from a old woman in her eighties, to a sixteen year old young man; and I caught the passion for God?s mission by living and working each day with a dedicated team of missionaries. It was an unforgettable year and a delightful experience to teach five wonderful children. I quickly realized that God was calling me to stay.
When I returned to the States during the summer of 2001, God paved the way for my return by blessing me with a new church sponsor, the Stamford Church of Christ and with financial support through individuals and churches. I returned to Thailand in January of 2002. I am currently living in Chiang Mai, Thailand while I study the Thai language and after three months of intensive study, I will return to Bangkok. I will take two months to renovate the school/my home, continue my Thai studies with a tutor and will also review the new school curriculum. I will resume teaching the children in June of this year. I have made a four-year teaching commitment to the Allens, Penningtons and Walters.
While my primary focus will be teaching the children, I plan to continue my involvement in the campus ministry and life of Siam church. As I become more fluent in the Thai language, I know I will have greater impact in reaching out to the Thai people.
