382. Joseph Eddy Marsh (Asa B. , Jasper , Joseph , Joseph , Joseph , John ) was born on 14 May 1822 in Town of Kiantone, Chautauqua County, NY. He died on 6 Aug 1862 in Jamestown, Chautauqua Co., NY from consumption and was buried in Walnut Hill lot 7, Lakeview Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.

He was born in the Town of Carroll (part of which later became the Town of Kiantone), Chautauqua Co. on 14 May 1822 (based on a page torn from an old family bible and also on the last will of Albert Samuel Marsh) or 17 April 1822 (based on Lakeview Cemetery record; age 39 years, 3 months, 21 days at 7 August 1861 as date of death).

According to 1855 State Census, he was living in the Town of Busti, Chautauqua Co. for eight years. He lived in Jamestown during 1860 US Census. In both census, he was listed as a cabinetmaker.

James R. Marsh has two wooden furniture articles (upper part is cabinet with two glass doors and lower part is chest of drawers which is sort like as a narrow china top and buffet combination) which Joseph Eddy Marsh had made.

He died of consumption in Jamestown on 6 August 1862 in his 40th year (based on another page torn from an old family bible and also on the same above-mentioned will) or 7 August 1861 (based on Lakeview Cemetery record). He was buried in an unmarked grave at Lakeview Cemetery.

Joseph married Mandane A. Dawley, daughter of Job Dawley and Rebecca Jane Budlong, on 22 Dec 1842 in Jamestown, Chautauqua Co., NY. Mandane was born on 25 Dec 1816 in Litchfield, Herkimer, NY. She died on 6/26 Nov 1884 in Jamestown, Chautauqua Co., NY and was buried in Walnut Hill lot 7, Lakeview Cemetery, Jamestown, NY.

She was born in Litchfield, Herkimer, NY on 25 December 1816 (based on same page as first mentioned and also on the same above-mentioned will) or 25 December 1813 (based on Lakeview Cemetery; age 70 years, 11 months, 1 day at 26 November 1884 as date of death).

She was listed as a milliner in 1855 State Census and as a housekeeper in 1860 US Census.

She was listed as a widower living in Jamestown in 1865 State Census in which Lucinda D. Marsh as nineteen years old unmarried teacher and niece born in Chautauqua Co.; Albert S. Marsh as twenty-one years old unmarried engineer and son born in Michigan; and Loraine Marsh (nothing mentioned except name) were also listed as living with Mandane Marsh. (who were Lucinda D. Marsh and Loraine Marsh?).

She died at her residence on Lakeview Ave. in Jamestown on Wednesday, 26 November 1884 (based on Lakeview Cemetery record and Jamestown newspaper obituary clipping) or 25 November 1884 (based on same above-mentioned will) and was buried in an unmarked grave at Lakeview Cemetery on Friday, 28 November 1884 (based on Jamestown newspaper obituary clipping), leaving estate valued at $2,000 which was hotly contested between her only child, Albert Samuel Marsh and her eldest grandchild, Ruth B. (nee Marsh) Dunham. It seemed that Ruth B. Dunham won the estate.

404. Lewis Marsh (Lewis , Hartshorn , Keziah , Joseph , Joseph , John ) was born on 5 Jul 1807 in Barre, MA. He died on 13 Oct 1895.

He received a common school education in his native town and was going to work for Joseph Robinson at Barre when he was about nine years old. Later he learned the shoemaker's trade and followed it for some years in Barre and neighboring towns. He also worked at his trade in Waltham, He was a skillful craftsman when it was a work of art to make a good shoe. He had a general store in Framingham and in Barre at another time. He opened a general store in Jeffersonville, town of Holden, in the section called Eagleville, about 1856, and continued there a number of years. He resumed his trade of custom shoe making also. In 1865, he purchased a farm in the western part of Holden and conducted it for eight years in connection with his shoemaking. He sold the farm to Albert Prescott who owned it for some eight years while Lewis Marsh remained a tenant on the farm, however, and finally the old place was bought back by his son, Cornelius Marsh, and he remained there until his death, 13 October 1895. In politics, he was a Whig, later a Republican.

Lewis married Lucy Trowbridge Whiting, daughter of Amos Whiting and Lydia Stone, on 9 Feb 1835 in Barre, MA. Lucy was born on 29 Sep 1814 in Barre, MA.

423. Charles Wheeler Marsh (Thaddeus , Hartshorn , Keziah , Joseph , Joseph , John ) was born on 11 Dec 1829 in Providence, RI. He died on 3 Dec 1864 in Holden.

He came with his mother to Worcester when he was an infant. He attended the public schools there and then learned the trade of stone cutter under his uncle, Thomas Lewis, whose shop was then on Waldo street. After a number of years with Mr. Lewis, he left to engage in business for himself in the same line. He established himself in a shop on Mechanic street, near the Union street bridge of the Boston and Maine Railroad and continued there for a short time. Due to the ill health of his wife, he decided to try farming and sold his business to Mr. Walker. He bought of the Willis Smith estate a fifty acre farm in the northwest part of the town of Holden near the Rutland line. He also established himself in the stone cutting and monument business in Holden in addition to his farming. He retired from business about a year before his death. He was a Methodist in religion and a Republican in politics. He was a superintendent of his school district.

Charles married Samantha Mallissa Austin, daughter of David Brown Austin and Rebecca Hunt, on 29 May 1851. Samantha was born on 25 Nov 1827 in Franklin, VT.
