The Rehfeldt Clan seemingly originated from the eastern parts of Germany. Family history states our line came to America during a war: after 1833 and before 1859. Our first known ancestor in America was born in Schkoena, Germany and married in Golconda, Pope County, Illinois. The name Rehfeldt in German means deer field.
I have located several Rehfeldt branches in searching for ancesters. They settled in Germany - near Berlin, Canada, Illinois, Minnesota and South Dakota. The Minnesota branch changed the spelling from Rehfeldt to Rayfield.
My grandfather Phillip Richard Rehfeldt and his siblings were still using German for their mealtime prayer while growing up in Golconda, Illinois. They were famers and contract carpenters. Before the depression, Richard August and three of his sons owned a lumber yard but lost it when the depression came. In search of work the family scattered - some stayed in Illinois and others went to other states.
Gottfried Rehfeldt was born February 6, 1744/45 in Schkona, Germany. He married Johanne Elisabeth Wust born May 8, 1746; died February 7, 1814.

Charles Rehfeldt; Occupation: Farmer and miller. He was of the Lutheran faith. After he married they lived on a farm near Golconda, IL. Charles was one of the men to help build the Presbyterian Church in Golconda and his picture is in one of the cornerstones of the church.
Sophia Draper Rehfeldt; came to America when she was 18 with her mother. She had a daughter from a previous marriage, Laura Louise, who was 1 year old when she married Charles. (from History and Families of Pope County, IL)
