I wish that Washington State History had been this interesting when I was a student at Sedro-Woolley High School!   Kitty

Willing to do lookups in the following books or genealogical publications:

"1880 United States Census
of Lewis County
Washington Territory"
(Transcribed By Jean Allyn Smeltzer)

The census was done by John Brown and C.A. Reed (enumerators).   Mr. Brown spelled the way something sounded to him.  Mr. Reed thought that people that were part Indian were mulatto.  [As noted by Jean Allyn Smeltzer]

"1880 United States Census
of Pacific County
Washington Territory"
(Transcribed By Jean Allyn Smeltzer)

The census was done by John T. Newland (enumerator) and took him slightly more than one month to complete.  [As noted by Jean Allyn Smeltzer]

"Abel Gates 1793-1870
His Ancestors, His Descendants"
(By Leo K. Gates)

Interesting reading, especially since I'm included in an addendum as a descendant!  Descendant sources are mostly from personal family histories (folklore).   Much of the GATES ancestor data was based on information Charles Otis GATES had documented and may be incorrect.

"Logging Railroads in Skagit County"
(By Dennis Blake Thompson)

Contains quite a bit of information on Logging Camps, including Mr. English's Camps.

"Sebring's Skagit County Illustrated"
(By Al Sebring)

"Historical and Pictoral Publication of Skagit County, Wash.  Compiled and Published by Al Sebring, Mt. Vernon, Wash.  December 1902"

"The Pig That Went to War, June 1859"
(Washington State Genealogical and Historical Society, Vol. 1, Number 3)
Summer of 1983

The mentioned publication is a reprint of an article that appeared July 10, 1896 in the Tacoma Sunday Ledger.  That article was called, "San Juan and Secession."
This particular issue also contains a bibliography of cemetery records in the Seattle Public Library at that time.

"Washington's First Marriages
of the 39 Counties"
(Eastern Washington Genealogical Society)

"Our Washington State Centennial Project," published by the Eastern Washington Genealogical Society (Spokane, Washington).  Edited by John D. Carter

"Washington State Place Names"
(University of Washington Press)

A unique look at why and how our Washington State towns were named.  (Author, James W. Phillips)

"Washington Territory Donation Land Claims"
(Seattle Genealogical Society)

This was a project of the Seattle Genealogical Society, published in 1980.  It is an abstract of information in the land claim papers of persons who settled in Washington Territory before 1856.
