A lot of people have been asking about the Piano Key ratings for the sites on the "Long Version" of the "Tori Connections" page, and if I was planning to distribute awards for people to display on their pages to show the ratings their site received. Well, actually, no one has asked me about it. I thought of it on my own. But anyway...
The ratings for each site are based on my opinion, using a scale of 1 to 6 piano keys. (I was going to do little Tori heads, but I couldn't make up my mind which picture to take the head from. That would probably have been a bit too tacky anyway.) Why 6? To be different, but not so different as to put people off. I judge the sites by various criteria that gets blended together to form a final rating. Some of the criteria involved includes, but is not limited to:
Here the are! Piano Key Awards for you to put on your page to show your pride at how high a rating I gave you. Or, for those of you who are avid under-achievers, how low a rating I gave you. To each his/her own, and all that. And if you're site isn't yet on the list, then in the meantime, you can use the "not found" icon, and e-mail me and let me know that I need to add your site. If you just joined a Tori Webring, I'll probably get to it soon. Also, if you want tips on improving you site (in my opinion), let me know and I'll give you some.
- Content -- The more Tori, the better. Very important.
- Design -- Is the page organized? Can I find stuff easily? Is it cool? Pretty important.
- My overall impression -- Do I like it? (It's rather ambiguous, I know) I try to be fair.
- Official-ness -- Officiality, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. No cheap carbon-copies, please.
- Readability -- Can I read what's on the page without turning off the images to hide the background? Very important.
Okay, here's what you do: Copy this HTML code and put it on Tori site's front page, or awards page, as the case may be. Change "#" that appears in the image tag to the number of keys you received. Then, if you don't mind, e-mail me and let me know that you put a Piano Key Rating on your site so that I can some check it out. If at all possible, save the image to your own web site (it's only 4 KB), that way you don't have to worry if Geocities is down, assuming your not on Geocities. That would mean changing the image "SRC=" info to reflect where you put the gif, of course. But if you can't, just use the code as is:
<A HREF="http://geocities.datacellar.net/~sampieri/tori/" onMouseOver="self.status='A Fire in the Sky! --->'; return true">
<IMG SRC="http://geocities.datacellar.net/~sampieri/tori/images/#_keys.gif" WIDTH=154 HEIGHT=103 ALT="Yippy! This site got # keys from A Fire in the Sky">
</A>
