Hoggle runs to Sarah's rescue. Sarah is so overwhelmed at Hoggle's friendship she gives him a big smooch. They are immediately transported to the Bog of Eternal Stench via an underground tunnel.
Sarah and Hoggle run into Ludo (actually fall upon Ludo) and together they attempt to find a way out of the Land of Stench. They come in contact with the bridge and its keeper, Sir Didymus.
Hoggle manages to slip by Sir Didymus, but Sir Didymus prevents Sarah and Ludo. Sarah pleads with Sir Didymus to let them pass- to no avail. Sir Didymus must defend his oath to the death. So Ludo and Sir Didymus have a duel. Sir Didymus gives up after an intense fight.
With this surrender, Sarah assumes it was okay to cross the bridge. Sir Didymus disagrees.
Sarah then asks Sir Didymus for his permission. Taken aback, Sir Didymus says yes. Unfortunately, the bridge gives way and Sarah is left hanging from a tree branch directly above the bog. Ludo saves her by calling on his friends, the rocks. Both Ludo and Sarah reach the other side safely. Sir Didymus follows with his trustworthy steed, Ambrosius, and joins his new new brother (Ludo), Sarah and Hoggle on their quest.
After walking for a while everyone is overcome with hunger.
After his first bout with the Eternal Stench and his many run-ins with Jareth, Hoggle did not have the courage to face either again. So Hoggle yields to his fear and hands Sarah the peach.
