  Gary Oldman was born in New Cross, South London on March 21st 1958. After being brought up only by his mother, Gary dropped out of school at 16, to work in a sports store. In this period he started to study literature and he taught himself to play the piano. Shortly thereafter he met Roger Williams, a drama teacher who introduced Gary to acting. After working on stage, he was cast in the role of Punk rocker Sid Vicious in Sid & Nancy. Critics raved about his performance and Gary had established his name in the movie-business.
