  Natalie Portman was born on the 9th June 1981 in Jerusalem, Israel, and is an only child. Her father is a doctor and infertility specialist, and her mother is a housewife. She's been a vegetarian since she was eight, when she saw a demonstration of laser surgery on a chicken at a medical conference. Natalie's hobbies include dancing, reading, writing, acting, and ice skating, which she learned on the set of Beautiful Girls. She enjoys listening to Bjork, PJ Harvey, Juliana Hatfield, Alanis Morissette, and the Jackson Five. Before auditioning for the role of Mathilda, Natalie had performed roles in plays at the Usdan Theatre Arts Camp. Leon is Natalie's feature film debut.
