DB was recently interviewed by The Boston Globe about Dirt Nap and its appearance at the Woods Hole Festival:
"A lot of times in the movies I don't believe that a certain guy is with a certain beautiful girl -- these guys have these wildly improbable love interests," says the actor D.B. Sweeney. "Not only because of reasons of attractiveness, but because of being different kinds of people."
That goes not just for two actors playing a couple, but for actors playing a group of friends. Sometimes the connections just appear implausible. In his new movie "Dirt Nap," which Sweeney stars in, directed and produced, and coauthored with former Peabody resident Brian Currie , he used friends of his -- actors John C. McGinley ("Scrubs," "Platoon") and Paul Hipp -- as the other leads. Ed Harris also is featured.
"This film just feels like three guys on a road trip behaving badly and learning to appreciate each other," says Sweeney, who's 44, by phone from California. "It was important to me that they would seem like three guys who have known each other for 30 years, not three guys who just met out by the Winnebagos a week ago."
Audiences have known D.B. Sweeney the Actor for 20 years. One of his first big roles was playing "Shoeless" Joe Jackson in John Sayles's 1988 movie "Eight Men Out." Sweeney has worked steadily since on television and in movies and theater, including a production of "Under Milk Wood" at the Williamstown Theater Festival three summers ago . "Dirt Nap" is his first movie as a filmmaker as well as an actor, and it's currently on the festival circuit.
Last month Sweeney won the best-director award at the Boston International Film Festival, and he's bringing the movie back to the area on Saturday at 7 p.m. as one of the opening- night selections of the eight-day Woods Hole Film Festival . The festival, in its 15th year, runs through Aug. 5."

DB has recently visited the American Pavillion at this year's Cannes Film Festival. A report on Fox News has this positive comment about DB and Dirt Nap (direct link):
"Actor DB Sweeney, taking note of the festivities, told me about a film he’s directed and is showing here called “Dirt Nap” with Ed Harris, Moira Kelly and Mark Moses from “Desperate Housewives.”
“Dirt Nap” has been such a hit that Sweeney told me he’s already gotten three or four offers to direct another feature. Not bad for an actor who’s the favorite of casting directors—the guy has not stopped working for a minute since making an impressive turn in 1990’s “Memphis Belle.”

Thanks to Azzro again for finding pictures of DB with the Stanley Cup at a recent ceremony in Los Angeles. I also had the pleasure of seeing the Cup during its recent visit to London and can certainly understand why hockey fans react to it so strongly - it puts other sports trophies to shame! According to the Futon Critic, DB will guest star in a episode of House on Tuesday 16th May. As quoted by Futon Critic:
"D.B. Sweeney guest-stars in the next all-new May Sweeps episode of HOUSE. A 16-year-old female Hurricane Katrina victim suffering from hallucinations about the tragedy is brought to House by his ex-bandmate Crandall (guest star Sweeney), who recently found out that the girl is his daughter. Despite fearing that his friend is being scammed, House takes the case, and as he works his way through the girl's lies to find clues to diagnose and treat her, he's forced to tell a few lies of his own. Meanwhile, Cuddy asks House to review two medical files, and it doesn't take long for him to figure out that she's looking for a sperm donor. House takes the search a step further and sets Cuddy up for a big surprise in the "Who's Your Daddy?" episode Tuesday, May 16 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). "

Dirt Nap has been has been selected as the closing night feature for
MethodFest 2006. More details about the screening at the Louis B. Mayer Theatre, Woodland Hills, California on April 6th can
be found at the MedthodFest website. It's not clear yet if the screening is open
to the general public but if you're in the local area it's worth enquiring!
I recently came across the LoveFilm website which is a European online DVD rental site which also hosts trailers for its movies.
They have a section for DB Sweeney which includes trailers for many of his 80's movies... some trailers of which I'd never
seen before and are glorious for their 80's trailer-style nostalgia! Find the cheesy voiceovers here: LOVEFILM.

A quick update to mention the website for The Darwin Awards is now live at http://movie.darwinawards.com. No images or footage of DB is online yet but it's worth checking regularly. There is a brief clip and a few articles on the film's screening at Sundance which are worth a look.
February 25 2006
DB has been busy since the start of the year working on promoting Dirt Nap. January saw him visit the Sundance Film Festival
to screen the movie to a standing room-only packed theatre. If that's anything to go by this movie sounds like a hit!
Another of DB's new movies - The Darwin Awards - was also screened at Sundance to generally postive responses.
DB also attended the Golden Globes on 16th January - photos from the red carpet can be seen at the Miscellaneous page.
DB is currently spending time in Italy and Germany as part of the USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour Feb 22nd to March 3rd. Details of the tour are (courtesy

"ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Actor, director and producer D.B.
Sweeney will travel to Italy and Germany to preview his latest movie "Dirt
Nap" and visit troops on a USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour Feb. 22-March
3. The trip will take the actor to several bases in the region and the
Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where troops are recuperating
from injuries.
Most recently seen guest-starring on the ABC series "Life As We Know It,"
Sweeney wrote, produced and directed the new comedy, which premiered at last
month's Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. The story follows three
longtime friends on the road trip of a lifetime.
A New York native, Sweeney studied at New York University's Tisch School
of the Arts. In 1983, Sweeney made his Broadway debut in "The Caine Mutiny
Court Martial." Two years later, he appeared on the small screen in the
mystery series "Spenser: For Hire" with Robert Urich.
In 1987, Sweeney earned his big break as "Jackie Willow" in Francis Ford
Coppola's "Garden of Stone." The following year, the versatile actor
portrayed the legendary "'Shoeless' Joe Jackson" in "Eight Men Out." Over the
next 10 years, Sweeney starred in a number of films, including "Memphis
Belle," "Fire in the Sky" and "The Cutting Edge." Television credits include
"Lonesome Dove," "Miss Rose White" and "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge." He
also provided the voice for the animated movies "Dinosaur" and "Brother Bear."
I've saved the best news until last... The Dirt Nap website is now live and includes the trailer!
It looks like a wonderfully charming and witty movie, and whilst I could continue raving about it you can make
up your own mind by watching it here: http://www.dirtnapmovie.com/trailer.html
