This study starts off by condemning the marketing techniques of the organised church having done so then goes on to reinforce marketing techniques in the church under the guise of spiritual unity great! this stuff makes me puke!

Hebrews Verse 1 is saying that God has throughout history and in various ways made known to his people that he is their father and this can be seen in the likeness of pieces of a jigsaw puzzle put together to which makes this point.

UP WITH THE RANKS OF THE QU'RAN HERE IS MY FAKE HOLY BOOK

Quite a lot recently I have been thinking over the time when I will meet the Lord face to face. So many things have passed through my mind

The question involved moral physical positions in the act of making love. After a minute of hysterical laughter

Most people detest me even at the mention of my name-the majority burn with anger and resentment and bitterness.

My vicar once gave me his white Holy collar to aid me in prayer he is a wonderful Holy and sacred man.

Let us begin with me. I am white I am racist but I am not a racist .

Many Christians today are Spiritually fat off the blessings in Christ.

Respect for authority generally and respect for the ministerial office in particular is much reduced.

Sin is defined by the Law of God which was given to Moses by God.

Whether we care to admit this or not-the fact remains that we are slaves.

So are you contemplating suicide?
Basically to put suicide in a box..

How long I wonder till the time arrives when political correctness becomes Law and the preaching of Christianity becomes an act of terrorism in the eyes of the Law.

This subject came to mind this morning as my wife was picking a cd from our collection to play on her journey to work.

For the most part in religions trials and tribulations are seen as a test of God. Generally the thinking in this is that God wants to see how faithful we are

How can I reconcile the promises of God with what I see around me in the world today? How can I believe in something I can't even see?

This study is written from my script.

When I first started this study, it was an issue at that time.

Although that time has now passed on and I missed the opportunity of the moment, there are still things about this subject that should be of some interest to you.

Losing your salvation? Understanding Baptism and NT righteousness.

Some Christians believe that at Baptism, God washes away your sins, and then it is down to you to stay clean- to stay saved!

One particular verse that some might use, would be Rev 3:4-5.

To attempt to answer such a verse, it is important to first see if Baptism, is about God washing your sins away, and if you can get dirty afterwards, lets see the first Baptism’s spoken of in the Bible .

Turn to Heb 9 v1 so from this we know what chapter 9 is going to be about.

Heb 9:10, there are variants on the word washings here, but most translations will say Baptisms, so yes Baptism did start out, in the OT!!

Lets see some examples of Baptisms/washings in the OT.

Could someone read Lev 15 1 to 15.

In v 2,32  unless it has been cut out from your translation, the verses tell us that these are rituals and ceremonial washings, which makes sense when you take a good look at what happened after they Baptized themselves-we see they were not clean until sometime after.

Notice also that offerings were made for sin-which again shows us that the Baptisms were just external washing’s and not internal washing’s.

Baptisms in the OT then, external bathing that didn’t cleanse you from sin.

There is another pre-Christian Baptism which is not spoken of in the Bible, but was found recorded in the dead sea scrolls.

This Baptism was what Jews required of Gentiles who desired to become Jewish converts: there were various rituals to first undertake, and these totalling to at least 4 years, and then finally on completion of all the rituals and a judgment of the Elders, they could undergo the Baptism which gave them membership into Israel, but again this was largely traditional and had nothing to do with cleansing from sin, (it was membership) and again not in the Bible.

That’s the OT Baptism’s done, what about the NT?

Turn to Mk 7:1 to 8. Lk 11:37 to 39, so we see the Baptism’s of the tradition of the Elders that were for cleansing, disregarded by God himself.

I guess your properly thinking “we see a lot of washing here but not a lot of Baptism” well, Baptism comes from the Base Greek word ”Bapto” meaning “to dunk or dip” and to try not to use it in context of washing something, is like trying to explain what corn flakes are without mentioning the word "flakes" So Bapto and washing are inseparable-although you don’t see the word Baptism, so really I’m just making sure that all possible Baptisms are covered.

So we see that Baptism’s prior to Jesus were for ritual purification/ ceremonial washing, and could be membership, but they never had anything to do with cleansing from sin.

So if today, those Baptism’s have been integrated into Christian thinking, and that is why we have a "cleansing theology" in Christian Baptism, the question is why? For those Baptisms didn’t cleanse you from sin.

To completely divide Christian Baptism from those previous Baptism’s, note that those Baptisms didn’t involve a second party, whereas Christian baptism today is done by a second party. ”Repent and be Baptized”.

So the act of Christian Baptism is entirely different, and unique from those other Baptisms.

Now there is one more Baptism we haven’t looked at and that is the Baptism of John.

  1. Does the Baptism of John wash sins away?

  2. Is it the Christian Baptism?

Read Mark 1:4

John’s Baptism was "For the remission of sins"-this was the purpose of John's baptism. It was not for the purification from sins, but for repentance only, it was the outward symbol of a repentant heart (Matthew 3:5, 6, 11). So no, it didn’t cleanse.

The only purpose of John’s Baptism was to prepare the way for the Lord, and the message of John’s Baptism was “you must receive the Messiah with and as a repentant heart. But Is this the Christian Baptism?- Acts 19:1-6

If John’s Baptism was Christian Baptism, why did they get Baptized again?

So if all Baptism has ever meant was ritual purification and ceremonial washings and nothing to do with "cleansing from sin" and those Baptism’s being different in nature to dual Baptism’s today, the question is;

What is Christian Baptism?

Here is the first clue (remember that Jesus has already been Baptized) Luke 12:50 What do you think when reading this?

Paul said “you must be Baptised!” When Paul says this, he uses the Greek word “Baptizo” which comes from that base word “Bapto” meaning dunk/dip, and what it means is “to completely submerge” as in you dunk/dip your biscuit for a split second too long in your coffee and it breaks off and sinks to the bottom of the mug. Baptizo would be used to describe a ship having sunk to the bottom of the sea, or have you seen the film Titanic?, when the old lady throws her necklace overboard and it is engulfed by the sea-Baptizo!!!!

Paul said “you must be Baptizo!”

So what does he mean? well put it this way, they didn’t have breathing equipment in Paul’s day, so yes he meant you must be drowned! “

Why the necessity for death?

The Law is the reason, you see the Law is not satisfied with a man until he is dead, the consequence of the Law was conviction of sins, and also brought condemnation resulting in death for transgressions, this brought about God’s justice and his wrath upon sin- and to the one whom lives by it. God is just, and the soul that sins must die.

I don’t know if you remember “Terminator 2” when the android is sent back in time to terminate “John Conner?” it was relentless in its pursuit and would only stop when “John Conner” was dead—the Law worked in the same way. Romans 7:9-10

If the Law is going to bring death to us, why do we have to die in Baptismal death? Paul answers with a parallel between death and marriage and the Law.

Davee and I are married, so long as we are both alive we are not free to enter into an intimate relationship with anyone else ,making our marriage binding. Should one of us die then the marriage is void, and then one of us is free to marry another. The law -like marriage, is binding on all mankind so long as they live, however at death they are released from it. This is where Baptism comes in, Baptism is a death. Baptism is death, and if you’re dead you are released from the Law! I’ll say it again-The purpose of Baptism is death and the point of the death is to be set free from the judgement and wrath of the Law. So we get diverted from that death and judgement, that comes as a result of the Law, by dying before we die.

Romans 7:1 to 4

This raises a question; is the Law cheated out of its justice? no! for being Baptized into Jesus, is being Baptized into his death,  Jesus paid the penalty of our disobedience with his death. With Baptism, we share in his execution. Baptism is death, to be swallowed up in Jesus’ death who was punished for our sins. So the Law is satisfied- not cheated.

Romans 6:2 to 11

Just a little digression on verse 6- It occurred to me while reading this verse, that this verse could promote the idea that we are "free" from the power of sin-but that we still sin because of unbelief. What this verse actually means, is that it is impossible for us to sin “break the Law” because the Law is for the living-not the dead.

Is there a forerunner to Christian Baptism in the OT? yes!-Jewish circumcision served as a prototype of Christian baptism. With a knife a small piece of the body was cut off. This is the prototype. With baptism the flesh is also cut off. This is reality. Just as circumcision used to be performed once for all time, so also is baptism performed once for all time. -Col 2:9-14

From looking at Baptism we should have learnt this;

  1. Baptism does not wash away our sins or make us "clean"

  2. Baptism is death-death sets us free from the moral Law of God

  3. We cannot lose our salvation through breaking the Law-(sinning)

We are a new creation.

One quick final point (Acts 16:30-33).- so no 4-year pre Baptismal classes/rituals.

Now if you know what righteousness is, you would also know that I couldn’t speak about Baptism without speaking of righteousness, for the two is a package deal, and so lets look at the Breastplate of righteousness.

You have more than likely heard the teaching of “imputed righteousness” and as far as I know, some explain it like this;

It is said somewhere that “the will of God, is the Law of Israel” we have the term “the righteous requirements of the Law” Rom 8:4 it denotes an attribute of God “he is righteous,” if you obeyed all the Law all your life then you were righteous like God, righteousness is being morally perfect like God. Now the term-imputed is: you go to the bank one day and discover that you have been accredited a hundred pounds that you didn’t earn, and so it is the same with our righteousness. Put another way, you could say that our righteousness is the righteousness of Jesus, for how else could we be righteous, only God is righteous.

So if I got this right they say that they have the righteousness of Jesus accredited to them and so they are "righteous" but only by him.

Lets apply this to the Breastplate of righteousness and to an attack of Satan, because the devil would try to knock you off course with lies and deceitful schemes so that you will be distracted from God feeling afraid and defenceless against him. e.g.,

You feel down one day, as you did a sin that you considered to be the worst of all sin, Satan, seeing that your defences are down charges you and says, "hah! and you call yourself a Christian!" With you belief in the breastplate of accredited righteousness you might rely "yes I am" to which he could say " do Christians do what you just did?"

You cannot deny your sin, so what is your answer? I have the Jesus righteousness? Let me tell you- he will laugh in your face and say " can fresh and salt water spring from the same well?' but you retort "I have accredited righteousness" at which he may reply "maybe you should draw some out, because I do not see any righteousness in your life!"

The teaching of imputed righteousness in this instance will be about as useful as an inflatable dart-board, and you would need other Spiritual truths to deliver you, such as " Jesus died for my sins, I am a new creation, etc"

You can use these examples, but what of the failing of the Breastplate of imputed righteousness?

To be in this situation is similar to the Historical predicament of China, they erected a great wall 1,500 miles long, as a defence against enemy invasion, yet in one hundred years of its existence, China was invaded three times, not because invaders went round the wall or over the wall, or under the wall, but because the invaders simply conned the gatekeepers who let them come in.

Satan (the greatest con artist on earth) also can get through our wrong armour by bribing us with lies. Using imputed righteousness in this way is potentially making us open to a bribe of Satan in the form of deception. We want protection from the accuser, he wants to remind us of our sinful nature and the repeated times we have continued to fall short of God’s moral expectations/righteousness.

Why is this defence wrong? The answer is because we are not righteousness in that way. Let me equip you from scratch!

Now to test whether I have the right idea of righteousness, the concept must be strong enough to deflect all attacks of condemnation, guilt, fear and doubt, infact Satan’s attacks must just bounce off us.

Here goes……..

Rom 3:21- But now, the righteousness of God, apart from the law, has been made known, to which the law and the prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

So this verse tells us that there are now two kinds of righteousness.

One is the righteousness of God, as I've said is "Gods disposition" and two, a "position" of righteousness that comes through faith.

dispositional and positional.

  1. Dispositional --God’s righteous nature

  2. Positional-righteousness through faith.

To understand this, we need to look at Abraham.

The first point I would like to raise is, where did he go when he died? Heaven is normally the reply, but heaven is not where Abraham went when he died, infact Abraham went to paradise. Paradise is not another name for heaven, for although heaven is paradise as in definition, paradise was not the dwelling place of God!. During the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, the thief on the cross spoke to Jesus and asked him to remember him when Jesus went to the Kingdom of God. Jesus replied “today you will be with me in Paradise!”, now on the third day after Jesus’ death on the cross, he met Mary who ran to hug him, but he said to her “do not touch me for I have not yet ascended to the Father!. Well I don’t know what your math’s is like, but Paradise is not where the Father was…..

All dead believers, prior to Jesus death and pre-entry of Jesus as a man to His Kingdom went to Paradise, the reason being that they though having "accredited positional righteousness" were not justified, therefore they couldn’t be held in judgement for their sins, but then neither could they dwell with God who is just. This is because God cannot justify until the price had been paid, then he could justify. So Paradise was the temporal home for believers waiting for the hope of their salvation. In Romans 4:25 we have the verse that says “he was raised for our justification” When Jesus was raised for our justification- so was Abraham and all the other believers, the price had been paid for the entry ticket, meaning that the "accredited righteousness" was redeemed.

In simple terms "accredited righteousness" is like a sum of money that is unavailable to you until you reach the coming of age. When the age of Jesus came, the dead believers could take the accredited righteousness.

We therefore, do not need "accredited righteousness" because we are made righteous at conversion by the redeeming resurrection of Messiah before.

Our new righteousness, which is not Gods moral righteousness or accredited righteousness, is: "positional righteousness" through faith.

This is our Breast plate of righteousness- Satan! I cannot sin, I cannot lose my salvation, I have positional righteousness.

One final note, we are taught from the Bible to pursue the paths of God's dispositional righteousness, and that righteousness being the Morality of God-but not for salvation.
