Last night I stood outside the X-Files premiere in Westwood - let's just clarify that I did not see the movie!
Okay, first of all the absolute highlight is that I've finally seen NICK LEA (aka KRYCEK) in person!!! Waaaaaahhhhooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Damn, that man is fine! And tall! More drooling later. ;-)
Earlier yesterday, one of my co-workers asked me if I was going to premiere (isn't that pathetic when a co-worker is asking me if I'm going to the X-Files premiere?). I told him I'm going, but since I can't get out of work early enough, no I probably won't be going in - they're only giving tickets to people who get there early enough to sit in the grandstand. "Are you using your connections?" I asked him. "No, I thought I had one, but I'm going to have to see the movie like a regular civilian."
As luck would have it, I had NO meetings yesterday, EXCEPT for the one at 4pm. :-P I've never been so fidgety. Of course it ran over, and then I high-tailed it to Westwood. I ended up across the street from the red carpet, but I could still see pretty well. I took a few pointless "See, I was there" pictures. I can just see the captions for the website: "The ant with silver hair would be Chris Carter. The scrumptious 6 foot ant in white would be Nick Lea. The really tiny ant in red is Gillian Anderson."
The turnout in terms of crowd was fairly huge. But not unmanageable. I stood outside the premiere for Batman Forever (for the Val Kilmer, Tim Burton-as-producer connection) at the same place and that was a madhouse. The set up was for the stars to approach Kevin and Bean from KROQ for a quick interview - which was amplified for all of us to hear, and then proceed to the rest of the press crowd.
There wasn't much to the interviews, since Kevin and Bean didn't want to ask about the movie - pretty much just asked people about how excited they were to be there. Chris Carter said it was pretty amazing to be there, given that the end never seemed like it was coming a year and a half ago.
I'm going to just write my observations in note form... let's see - I'm going to admit, this is really Nick Lea heavy. Since he didn't come to the LA Expo, I'm just excited that I actually saw him in person, and I know he's for real. ;-> Even though I didn't meet him, I can die a pretty happy Phile, if not a wholly ecstatic one. ;->
Oh, and I got Gillian to wave to us schmoes across the street. At one point, she looked right at us, and everyone was too stunned to react. I started waving and went, "Hey, Gillian!" She waved back and everyone started waving. Not doing The Wave, mind you. Just waving.
*Later I was informed that Steven Williams is in D.C. shooting a TV series with Pam Grier. Whoo-hoo!

So, when Nick Lea showed up, I almost didn't recognize him without the leather jacket. ;-> He came with Laurie Holden (Marita Covarrubius). When Kevin and Bean introduced him, I let out what can only be described as a pure unadulterated Durannie scream - the kind I normally reserve for the other Nick. ;-> If you listen to the Kevin and Bean interview next week, at one point there was only one woman screaming "NIIIICCCKKKK!!" from about two miles away. That would be me. |
Everyone I was standing next to turned and looked at me as if I'd lost my damn mind. You know how there always seems to be one psycho in the group? They'd decided it was me. But I was later dethroned by the Gillian fanatic who screamed her name for 30 seconds non-stop. "GILLIAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!" You know how long it took for the Northridge earthquake to start and end? This girl was still screaming.
So anyway, in a nutshell even from where I was standing it was pretty damn exciting. So glad I went.

Hi Philes. Just wanted to share what a wonderful time I had this evening with you all. I went to the X-Files premiere in Westwood today. I met up with someone from the list (Hi Brooke!) and we headed towards the bleachers in anticipation. There was a line to get into the bleacher area so we took our place at the end and immediately made friends with other Philes (Hi Jenna!)
The line moved quickly and as they moved us to our appropriate area, we were all given FREE X-File soundtrack CD's! I was ecstatic since I hadn't purchased my copy yet. We then sat and anxiously waited for the festivities to begin, chatting it up with other fans and loving the fact that we all understood each others obsession :o)
It was set up so that there was us in the bleachers, then the red carpet (directly in front of us!) and on the other side was the press. Two local DJ's hosted the show, asking the stars questions before sending them down the red carpet to us, the adoring fans <g> They also gave us each a number, that if plucked from a hat by one of the film's stars, granted you entrance into the premiere. Sorry to say I was not a winner.
The first to arrive was none other then Mr. Carter himself. Soon after were Martin Landau, William B. Davis, John Neville, Mitch Pileggi, Rob Bowman and Frank Spotnitz. Nick Lea arrived too, accompanying Miss Laurie Holden!!
There were other stars in between these too and I will mention a few notables later but we were still waiting for you know who ;o)
DD arrived before GA with Tea and the crowd went mad at the first sight of him! He chatted with the DJ's and called us in the stands *his people* <G> I must admit to not having a clue as to what he was wearing? I didn't take my eyes off his adorable face I guess :o) As they came down the carpet, they were posing for the press and most would turn to wave at us once or twice. David, on the other hand, was too cute. He would move a few steps and pose for the press then turn around ever so slowly with some silly grin on his face and wave to us all. It was great.... HE, was great :o)
Gillian came soon after David and looked stunning in a Burgundy floor length gown and matching wrap. She really is breathtaking in person. I didn't see that she came with a date, however? She also would pose for the press and turn and wave at us. We were all in hog heaven :o)
As they turned the bend and went down the other side of the carpet, we did get to see Bowman, GG and DD pose together. It was a crowd pleaser.
Noticeably absent were The Lone Gunmen :o( Other stars that attended were: Martin Short, Mark Hamill, Jackie Bisset, Kelly Preston, Mimi Rogers, Scott Wolf, Bill Maher, Dweezil Zappa and Lisa Loeb, Luke Perry, Christina Applegate, Angie Eberhardt and others that I can't remember or never knew their name.
Overall, I think a FABULOUS time was had by all :o)

Greetings, loyal readers.
As we at the Scandal prepare to celebrate our first birthday, it felt like all our birthdays had come together when we got access to tickets to a sneak Preview of the X-Files movie.
Sneaking Around
Well, we did it. We made it to a showing of the movie before you lot! And boy oh boy are you in for a treat!!
Security, on our arrival, was strict to say the least. It was stated quite clearly that no bottles, cans or cameras were allowed into the cinema, but was strip search really necessary?
We made it to our seats and the lights went down... The nervous anticipation permeated the audience. That could have been due to the excitement that the film had created, or due to the fact that they wouldn't give us our clothes back until afterwards.... well anyway... The film began with a spectacular sequence that was breathtaking to behold. You will be amazed at what actually happens (the disclaimers won't allow me to go into details on threat of more pain). The onscreen chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson really sparkled as they bantered and ran and did all the usual X-Filey stuff - only now 60 feet tall.
I was a bit unsure about the musical number, but when shown in context with the film as a whole, it explains more in 5 minutes than The Red and The Black ever could!
Now on to the bit that you all want to know about. Do they kiss? Well, there is kissing. I can't say who or when, but I can confirm that about 20 minutes into the film there is definitely a couple in the background having a snog. The significance of this will not be lost on devoted followers of the series, or indeed anyone who has never bothered to watch an episode in their life.
We were just getting to the good bit when my colleague LA was caught with her red crayon writing on the back of the chair in front of her "Photocopy THAT, Chris Carter!".
As we landed on the street, we could hear the assembled hacks cheering and screaming as the finale swung into full... er.. swing. I've tried good manners, bribery and threats, but nobody would tell me what happened. I can only surmise, that they live happily ever after.
Remember, folks. It may not be right, but it's right here!!
