Universal Soldier finds Jean-Claude Van Damme as a dead/alive soldier, Luc Deveraux (GR44 is his code-name) and Dolph Lundgren is the badass crazy psychotic fellow dead-alive soldier, Sgt. Scott.
The female is Ally Walker ("Profiler"), she plays a reporter..the love interest of JCVD.
Produced by Mario Kassar (T2,
RAMBO, CLIFFHANGER), and released summer 1992 and with all the competition it stood pretty
well and was the first JCVD to make a 10 mln $ opening. Van Damme is a vietnam soldier who was
killed together with musclebound Dolph Lundgren ("Masters of the Universe", "Rocky IV"). They killed each
other 'cause Lundgren was getting disillusional about the war. NOW, 1992, they are dead soldiers,
brought back to life (an experiment)...they serve as twice better Navy SEALS and they are the
Universal Soldiers. SF banzai set modern USA with all the action around it. Apparently Lundgren
sees Van Damme as a traitor back in Nam, and he still thinks he is still in 'Nam, so we go with the action.
Reliable sources tell me Jean-Claude's budget in this movie were around $20 million. Simon Rhea is also a Universal Soldier in this flick, you can find Simon in great Martial Arts films as "Best of the Best" and "Best of the Best II". Check them out!
