Episode 12: Labyrinth

Part 1 of 3

Nan Smith (deimos1@earthlink.net), 8 August 1999:

Wow! that's about the most eloquent I can get about this one. I knew I should have just saved it until I had the second half, but, no, I had to read it. And I'm terrible with cliffhangers. Between Margaret Brignell's story and this one, I'm rapidly being reduced to babbling insanity.

Irene Dutchak (sirenegold@yahoo.com), 8 August 1999:

Wow! This was beautifully written, but that's what I've come to expect from Phil's stories.

I can hardly wait till the next episode to see how this will be played out.

It's wonderful how all the diverging story lines are coming together so neatly. Excellent planning on everyone's part!

Thanks to Phil, and to all the Season 6 writers for this and all the season 6 stories.

Wendy Richards (ida18@hrm.keele.ac.uk), 9 August 1999:

Wow! Phil, what a story! And what a set-up for the concluding episode! You've started to tie together any number of loose ends from both this Season and Season 5, to say nothing of elements from Seasons 1 to 4... I bow to your skill!

SPOLERS AHEAD!

Some moments I loved:
"The Lex Luthor living in the LexCorp Building penthouse is the same man who was there five years ago, and who tried to kill me and marry you, who committed suicide by jumping off that building, who was resurrected by Gretchen Kelly, who went to prison, who kidnapped you from our first wedding... and who knows that I'm Superman."

Oh YES!! Just as we've all suspected all along.

The locket - what an ingenious idea, and so plausible, knowing Lex. And now you've set it up so that Lois is now the most important witness to the clone story being fake. *And* put her in danger again - what will you do in the next instalment?

And Beth:
"This is what Beth Luthor asked us to do -- to cut Luthor off from his money and power, to bring him down so that he can go to prison like the crook that he is! Well, *this* is how we do it."

Yes! it was obvious from towards the end of Season 5 that she was beginning to regret the bargain she'd made with Luthor, and finally we're seeing her do that.

As for the denouement:
"The banker seemed unable to get the words out, until Luthor glared at him. "...over *ten billion dollars!* Sir, LexCorp is *bankrupt!*" "

Wow! Now that is justice - or at least the start of it. Great stuff.

Oh, and I ROFL'd at this bit:
"Lois laughed. "Well, I had to come up with something that you'd know was from me...."
"Yes, well, I think you did that all right. Only you, Lois, would draw the El shield and an arrow in lipstick on the roof of a car!" "

Thanks, Phil, and can't wait for the final instalment!

Derak T. Shields (derakt@nbdev.com),  9 August 1999:

Excellent story!! I'm on pins and needles here!

Hurry the heck up and write the sequel!!

Thanks for the fun.

Merry Truitt (truitt22@flash.net), 9 August 1999:

I'm not very wordy. I loved this episode and can't wait for the conclusion. When will that be? I also hate cliff hangers. Keep up the good writing.

Lois181110@aol.com, 9 August 1999:

This episode was really good, but they all still need to focus more on lois and clark themselves. more romantic scenes are a must!!!!!!! keep up the good work and im looking forward to a seventh season!!!!!

Leanne Shawler (volterra@sd.znet.com), 10 August 1999:

Started reading, but never quite got finished. The FDA/NIH *never* do anything via internet. Everything is mailed, on paper. I doubt that even if he'd changed the figures on the electronic file that it would have got by those who were printing it out.

And LexLabs should already have a Hazardous Materials license -- we're a small cancer center, and we have one. Most labs do. However, I guess some nasty war weapon chemical would have exceeded their license and have them *closed down*.

You might call this picky -- but this is the same kinda stuff that drove me crazy while the series was running.

(who was curious to see how her Beth was going and thought she'd drop by)

Wendy Richards (wendy@kingsmeadowcr.freeserve.co.uk), 26 September 1999:

Leanne, if you 'never quite got finished' then you missed one heck of a story. This three-parter is one of the most suspenseful and well-written fics I have *ever* read. Nice work, Phil and S6 staff!!
