Virgina Newts and Salamanders

Salamander is the common name for about 320 species of amphibians with tails.  They include all members of the order Cuadata, which includ the newts, family Salamandridae.  Salamanders mainly occur in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.  They do not exist in Australia, south of the Sahara in Africa, and are rare in South America.

Salamander Larva
Salamander Larva are aquatic, have gills, and look very similiar to tadpoles.  They can be distinguished, however, by a smaller head.
