Various Virginia Turtles |
Turtles are the oldest members of the class Reptilia, and fall under the order Tesudines. They are characterized by specialized vertebrae and ribs, both of which form a shell surrounding the animal. They are also have a karotinized beak and lack real teeth. A turtle's shell may have a hinge which allows it to extend or retract their head. |
