100-episode Interview
Source: TVB Weekly #119 This is on location interviews by a reporter who went with the drama crew to Taiwan. Sunny is talking about his role in the 100-episodes drama. Hui Man Biao (played by Sunny) is a man who is diligent, good man at first, with a complicated family background. He is an architect by profession and his dream is to build up a good family. At his first love, his girlfriend dumped him due to their difference in social status. Then Biao met Yan (played by Kenix). In order to help his friend, Biao 's leg was broken. "YOU DO BAD TO ME, I DO THE WORST TO YOU" "Yan, don’t leave me! Give me sometime, let me kill Tim (played by Gallen) and we can have a new start." Sunny: The character Biao is not born to be bad, his good friend treats him bad first. Biao just wants to survive. Different people have different opinions. Like in Hong Kong nowadays, there are many moral problems, but many people don’t seem to care about these problems, is it wrong or right? We can consider Biao in that way too. In order to achieve his goals, his good friend treats him bad, friends sell him out, all these elements combined, make him to have such personality. In fact, he keeps his promise to his friends, takes responsibility to his family. He just wants to get back things he rightfully deserves. If nobody betrays him, he will not fight back. Sunny: I’m absolutely a good man. I am a serious, concentrating person and never treat people badly. Moreover, I am rational and everything is under control. If you are willing to think before you do things, many problems can be solved. The reporter commented that Sunny was different from Hui Man Biao. Sunny is friendly and willing to talk with everyone. When he plays, you don’t feel that he is a star, just like an old friend of yours. When there is an accident, everyone feels nervous, he will try to calm down everybody. Sunny thinks that He is a man, so he doesn’t show his pain in front of people. If you like to hear songs, he will sing any song you like such as Queen of a thousand years, ripples and drummer - (all are Cantonese songs) No matter what, Sunny is very lovely.
Interview with Sunny!!!In a TV Programme, Du Shi Xian Qing, produced by HK-TV Station, they invited Sunny as Studio Guest and it was reported that it took the host/producer six long months before they finally got Sunny to grace the "occasion.” This interview was aired sometime on July 9th, 99. Information provided by Swan Chan . . . During your childhood, your nickname? ..... "WOMAN HUNG.” I understand girls and women. I know their feelings because my mother and sisters brought me up. However, I don’t know men aged from 30-50. I seldom got along with them when I was in my youth. But I know the old man's feelings because I had a grandpa at that time. [Hazzie: Is this a clue to say that he is not even 30!?] It will be great to be your wife! You will know your wife’s feelings. Have you ever dressed like a girl? Yes, once. Once, in a summer, my sister asked me to wear a dress. I did it but I broke a bottle of medicated oil simultaneously. I was afraid that my mother had to buy a new one. That experience was very "impressive" and not so good. Will your "woman hung" and "casual " image affects your career? Yes. I think the influence will produce good and bad effect. Good effect is that I can easily understand the scripts that women write. Bad effect is that I don’t look like a hero. As you see in Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, my character is not convincing. This is because I have less experience in getting along with men aged 30-50. Nevertheless, I'll try to get more experience on that. .... I've feelings of inferiority! You've feelings of inferiority!!!? When I was a child, my father owned a factory and I 've got everything I wanted. Until my father fell sickly, my family suffered a blow and changed. So you suffered a lot? To save money, I didn’t ask my mother to buy a pair of new shoes even when my shoes had holes in them. On rainy days, other children took off their shoes but I could not because I didn’t want anybody to know that I wore shoes with holes. Now you've got the confidence!? Not really! Yet when I was studying in Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, I learnt that it is not a fault. As a family member, it is a responsibility to understand your family situation and problems, you have to give support to your family. You are a complicated and contradictive person? I am always a complicated and contradictive person. Still I am always happy, that's why my teacher gave me the English name, Sunny. I really want to build up an image of "happy man.” You are from a village, so how do you find about town? Many things! In my childhood, there were fewer roads in Yuen Long village in comparison with town. My family would go to town when we wanted to buy beautiful things! I like to be in a profession as a lawyer. However when I studied Form 6 (in Hong Kong educational system, form six is the preparation class for entering University), I found that I could not cope with studies and I didn’t want to waste money so I gave up. Then I thought, what could I do? A teacher? Some police? A chef? I've heard that you can cook? Yes! I can cook well (full of confidence), but my sisters wanted me to take courses in some institutions. I 'm not good at mechanics, so I don’t really want to take that course. One day I saw an advertisement of Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, then I enrolled into the school. Do you think that you have the talent of singing or playing drama? I think I have! During my schooldays, I used to play drama with my classmates at lunch time. I think that acting or to present a script is not difficult. The difficulty is how to arouse the audiences' attentions. While studying in Hong Kong Academy of Performance Arts, there were times when I felt like giving up . . . Why? Sometimes I will get bored but I am thinking if I gave up, what can I do? Meanwhile, every time when I wanted to give up, I will find some challenges in playing drama (the exercises from school). The challenges keep me in HKAPA. I am sure I would not have enrolled with HKAPA, if I can further my studies, I really want to be a lawyer. But you can be a lawyer in your movie/tv series!? Still, I want to be a REAL lawyer to help people!!! NOW you can also help people in other ways? Time's up now, we will continue our interview with Sunny next Friday! Sunny, you will be here next Friday? Sure!! Part 2 of the Interview... Last Friday we interviewed Sunny and he promised to come again. Now he keeps his promise!! Hi! Everybody. When I was studying in HKAPA, I played a minor role in a movie. After 3 or 4 years later, that movie director offered me a role when he filmed another movie. He also introduced me to Wong Pak Ming (the producer). Your performance must be impressive and outstanding, that's why the director remembered you? I think the most important thing is that I 'm diligent and willing to do everything. Chic Kee Yee (the producer of SOH, the 100-episode series, CI 1& 2 ), and I have been working together before I joined TVB. He felt that I was good and asked me to join TVB. You are diligent and your performance is good!!? In Criminal Investigation, the role "Lam Wing Tai" was tailor-made for me. After that, TVB gave me many opportunities. Diligence brings you success!? No matter what roles you play, the leading role or the minor one, there are always people watching your performance. Filming movies will make you earn more money. But in this company (TVB)... Yeah! You can make more money within a short period with less workload and more comfortable. You need 18-20 hrs to film a TV series, but now I concentrate on making TV series. My mother and her friends don't go to cinemas and only watch TV. If I am not on the TV, my mother’s colleagues will ask my mother " where is your son?". I feel more satisfied in making TV series. Chow Yun Fat is my favourite actor and I'm his fan. If you say I look like him, I'm flattered. In a way, I became an actor because of him, otherwise I won’t be an actor. Because of Chow's charms? When I saw him cry in a movie, I cried too. I found that I have the potential to be an actor. This is because I've got the emotion of the actor. So you have to say "thanks" to Mr Chow!? Thanks FA GOR, thanks FA GOR... (fa gor = chow yun fat) Will it be an obstacle in your career path that you take after Mr Chow? People tend to compare you with him... I 've got pressure. I know comparison is inevitable. Fa Gor is a genius but it is a fate that people put us together. Talking about fate, they asked that you play OUATIS but your age and acting skills then were not suited for that... At that time, before filming OUATIS, they told me to play young Hui Man Keung, not the gangster leader. This is based on the life of a real Shanghai gangster "TO YUET SUN". In order to prepare for the role, I read many information on him (to yuet sun) and Shanghai. As an actor, you need to co-operate with scriptwriters, producers and try to understand their intention and follow their instruction. Don't try to resist them. Which role you found the most impressive and challenging one? I like "SOH" Cheng Ka Hung, because I know the producer well and the scriptwriter is my HKAPA alumnus. So the script is tailor-made for me. I don't need to memorize all the lines. I just get the main points. You feel no pressure!?( in SOH) You couldn’t find that I spoke the wrong lines. Apart from SOH, I like 'Ka Bo' in justice Bao! That was my first time to participate in a TV series with ancient Chinese wardrobes. Also it was about mother/son relationship and was so real. You like the story about filial duty? Yes, I like to play movie/tv series about children and parents relationship. You’ve engaged in NUDE scenes in a movie, why you filmed such movies and how did you present this? I consider this movie in a positive way. It's all about LOVE, not a sin. Natural things!? The nude scene is not a big deal. The scene was that I was taking a bath and my wife was in the bathroom. There is no reason that I need to put on my clothes at that situation. But definitely, I don't film pornographic films because I don't want to lose my dignity! What kind of roles you don’t want to play? I accept all kind of role. As I remembered, few years ago, I told Chic Kee Yee that I didn't want to play a bad guy because I found my feature turned ugly after I played a bad guy and I hate myself. However, now this year, Chic asked me about the role in 100 episode drama, I accepted it and I convince myself that bad guys will give the audience a WARNING. Yeah! Bad guys always get a bad ending. Always dies . . . It is a breakthrough! Now you have no obstacles in your career path!? It's okay! You were brought up among girls and women, do you have feminine thoughts? I've got feminine thoughts but not behavior!!! Does anyone think that you are gay and court you? After filming that movie (Hold U Tight), I find that many people I know are gay. They just said, "Sunny, you are quite good" but they won't take any further action. They will give you "room". We all know you 've a girlfriend, who court who? In Asian, people opinion - it must be "boys court girls" She is a multi-talented artist, is it very difficult to chase!? (Smile)..... Not really!! You are so busy, we have to wait for 6 months in order to Interview you. Your girlfriend will not take that long!? I will not let her date me! I date her. Both of you are busy, so in what ways you contact each other? By mobile phone! You must let her know what you are doing, otherwise she will worry and imagine many things. Women only remember bad things and they even fabricate stories if you don't show up. You (Sunny), really understand women! I'll call her all the time. You must be the one who likes to celebrate all kind of festivals!? No!!! Festivals just provide merchants an opportunity to sell their products. You really think so? I will go out with my girlfriend to have dinner but I don't buy anything for her. I don't think these festivals' products can show my love. Both of you are in showbiz and paparazzi are always tailing you. I don't know they are tailing me! How you handle this? I don't buy these kinds of magazines/newspapers. So you ignore them? I'll see the pictures and ignore the contents. The readers understand that they(the media) fabricate most of the contents and reported in a negative way. Nothing we can do!! Inevitable!? We can do nothing, even if you clarified, nobody cares! If you don't like the contents, the only thing you can do is to ignore them. Besides, your behavior must be good and you must be honest, for example, I've got a girlfriend and date another woman in repulse bay, then surely rumor will spread out. So you must be decent!
Not only the celebrities, even the ordinary people must be decent. So you will keep a low profile when you get married? Absolutely, I will keep a low profile. No matter what, I wish you all good luck both in your family and your career. Aiya, you say such kind words! Thank you, Thank you! Thank you, Sunny...
Source: Oriental Daily When Maggie Cheung Hoi Yee turned down the offer of playing 100-episode series, it surprised Sunny and joked that he did not know earlier that Maggie would "dump" him otherwise there maybe a chance for "reconciliation" between him and Maggie!! Maggie Siu is replacing Maggie HY and it was reported that the producer will have the script rewritten... Do you know what Sunny favourite past time is? Well a DJ of an HK Radio Station pointed out that he likes to sing karouke with his family after dinner!!!! - info provided by Swan Chan

Sunny breaks his own NGs Record!!Source: HK Top Ten Central Recently Sunny Chan Kam Hung finished the Stanley Kwan Kam Peng new film Yuet Fai Lok Yuet Dor Lok (The Happier The Further Fallen) but expressed he would have to apologize to Yau Suk Ching because there was a scene in which Dau Dau was having noodles and he was speaking the dialogue, but for some reason he had 30 some bad takes in a row and forced Dau Dau to eat 5 or 6 bowls of noodles. Dau Dau expressed she didn't blame him because he didn't do it on purpose. After many bad takes, Dau Dau joked she was still hungry and could eat more, trying not to make Chan Kam Hung feel nervous and affecting his performance, because he already broke his own record of bad takes.
Sunny Chan Kam Hung N Alex Fong are down in the Dumps??Source: HK Top Ten Central
Source: Wolverine Sunny Chan Kam Hung while making TVB's 60 episode serial is making Yuet Fai Lok Yuet Dor Lok (Hold You Tight). He admitted making a serial and a film (at the same time) has affected him. In the past he would memorize the script before entering the studio, but now he is running between sets and couldn't even sleep enough. So now he couldn't memorize the script and instead would skim through the script and memorize it before the official shoot. For now he said nobody had criticized him because he didn't affect the progress. He said after the film wraps, he would return to the old habit of memorizing the script ahead. In the film the actors appeared without makeup. After several nights of work, his face was pale with circles under his eyes, which is perfect for the film's plot in which his wife just died. Chan Kam Hung said when he first worked with Chingmy Yau Suk Ching, the first scene took 32 takes. Because director Stanley Kwan Kam Peng has high standards, they don't mind wasting film, the most important thing is the effect. When he made Her Fatal Ways (Biu Je Nei Ho Ye) he set his personal record of 17 takes. Later after he and Yau Suk Ching talked, it didn't take too many takes even for passionate scenes.
The following is excerpts taken from Jessica’s Bravenet Forum by KatieL. Pls visit her forum for full details. I only gathered news that concerns Sunny Chan...
Source: Tai Sing Pao dd 6th June, 99 There have been rumours about Jessica and her co-stars Louis Koo and Sunny Chan. Jessica talked about her "relationships" with Louis and Sunny. There was news about Sunny dating Jessica but Jessica said she and Sunny are "sisters." She said Sunny grew up in a household with sisters so he is very caring and sensitive towards ladies. She said Sunny already has a girlfriend so he wouldn't chase after Jessica. Louis and Jessica are also "sisters." (I guess they could be "brothers" too.) Louis, Jessica, and Sunny are all used to gossips and rumours by now. Sometimes, they even laughed and joked about their "relationship" gossips. Indeed, those false gossips not only entertained the audience but also Jessica, Louis and Sunny themselves.
Louis Koo realizes that he is too cool and wants to have a change. So Louis decides to learn something from Sunny. Learn what? Louis said that Sunny sets a good example for him because Sunny always treats people nicely, compassionate, initiative and always smiling. However, when Louis does what Sunny does, people felt so surprised. Some thought that Louis went crazy. Obviously, Louis’ cool image deeply impresses people. On the other hand, a caption written by Sudden Weekly reporter said that Sunny was a good actor with no rumours and gossips (100% agree!). Sunny has been to Macau recently for shooting of 100 episodes drama.
