Name: kbf
From: Rhode Island, USA
Met him: New York, NY, May 27, 2000
Description:

Picture it, New York City, May 27th and your walking down the street in Time Square, you look up and Gabriel Byrne is walking towards you. What would you do? Well, I was quick enough to get this picture. My heart was pounding out of my chest and my husband thought he was going to have to pick me up off the street.

That is how my weekend in New York began..... Later on I finally got to see A Moon for the Misbegotten.
First of all the play was absolutely incredible. All the actors gave excellent performances, GB, RD, and CJ.... my husband even shed a tear....

There were about 20 fans waiting outside the stage door after the show.
Some just wanted to shake his hand and thank him for his wonderful performance. I thought I was going to freeze if I saw him up close, but he is just so regular that I couldn't help giving him at least a compliment. 'If I thought you were a great actor before the play, I now know that you are an incredible actor', was my opening line. He chuckled and simply said 'Thank you, darlin'. But let me tell you, if you are at the receiving end of one of those smiles you think
your heart is just going to stop. One thing that impressed me most about GB is that he always looked into the eyes of the person to whom he was speaking and always asked their name.
I got to stand next to him for quite awhile, no one ever seemed to get in my way, so I got to listen to him interact with the other fans, which was wonderful. He maintained his cool very nicely when an older woman kept taking his picture. He said to her: ' I don't want come off as being deranged, but if you could please wait until I'm done signing autographs I will be glad to pose for pictures.' No sooner did he finish this statement she snapped another one. I would have freaked out on her, but he just gave her a little look and then went right back to paying attention to the other people.
I was very proud of him, but I wanted to slap the lady across the face. He couldn't have been nicer in his request, but I guess she didn't have enough respect for him to abide by his wishes.

GB was as wonderful as I thought he would be ....
Quiet, handsome, caring towards his fans and very down to earth. I got to look into those baby blues and I thought my knees were going to give way. I know we spoke about the play, MM, his growth as an actor, how draining the show can be (especially when he has 2 performances in 1 day), but the whole experience is still a blur and unreal.
