God created you. You are special! No one else is exactly like you.
God has a special plan for your life. No one can tell you everything God has planned for you. But God's plan includes asking His Son Jesus to live in you as Savior and Lord.
What does this mean? Let's draw a picture to help explain.
Let's imagine that the top corner of this picture is heaven.
Do you know who lives in heaven?
God and Jesus live in heaven. Write their names on the two lines.
Do you know what heaven is like?
Heaven is a perfect place.
Let's imagine the bottom corner of this picture is our world. Who lives here? Write your name on the line under the picture of the child. This child will be you for the rest of this lesson. Is our world perfect? Our world is not perfect because of sin. The Bible says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). What is sin? Sin is choosing your way instead of God's way. Because of this attitude you do things God does not want you to do. These things are called sins. Have you ever done something you knew God did not want you to do?
If you did what you wanted to do instead of what God wanted you to do, you sinned. Write the word "sin" on the box.
How does God feel about you?
God loves you very much and has a special plan for your life.
How does God feel about your sin?
God hates sin. Because He is perfect He must separate your sin from Himself.
Can God let sin into heaven? Why or why not?
No. Since you are separated from God because of sin, you cannot go to heaven when you die. Look at the picture above. Notice that sin separates you from God.
God does not want you to be separated from Him. So He made a way for you to be forgiven.
The Bible says, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8, NIV).
Jesus left heaven and came to earth. He died on the cross so your sins could be forgiven.
Draw an arrow from Jesus to the cross. Imagine you had disobeyed your parents and were going to be punished. But a brother, sister, or friend took your punishment for you.
Do you know someone who would do that for you?
JESUS DID!
Jesus took your punishment when He died on the cross. You do not have to be separated from God now or after you die.
The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23, NIV).
Jesus came back from the dead and is alive today. He offers you the gift of eternal life. This means He wants to live in you each day on earth and with you forever in heaven. This is God's special plan for you.
But it is not enough to only know about God's gift. You need to accept it!
To accept God's gift, you must:
When you do this, God forgives and removes the sin that separated you from Him. Then Jesus comes to live in you to be your Savior and Lord.
The Bible says, "For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved'" (Romans 10:13, NIV)
Then when you die, where will you go?
You will go to heaven with Jesus! Draw an arrow from you to heaven.
Now I want to ask you some important questions.
If you are separated from God because of your sin, write the word sinner beside the picture of you. If you are close to God, write your name next to the picture of you.
Use the picture to explain your answer.
Circle your answer and tell why you circled it.
Read this prayer with me.
Dear God, I believe Jesus died on the cross for me and is alive today. I know I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sin. Please forgive me. I want Jesus to live in me as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for hearing me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Does that prayer say what you want to say? Do you want to talk to God in your own words, or repeat this prayer after me?
If you prayed this prayer, where is Jesus now?
Jesus lives in you as your Savior and Lord.
I,________________ accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord on __________________.
God's special plan for you includes asking His Son Jesus to live in you as your Savior and Lord.
A person who has Jesus living in him or her is called a Christian.
Will Jesus ever leave you?
No! Even when you sin again, Jesus will not leave you. You will need to ask Him to forgive you and help you not sin again. But He will never leave you.
The Bible says, "I write these things to you…that you may know that you have eternal life' (1 John 5:13, NIV).
Now that you have accepted Jesus into your life, you never have to doubt that you are a Christian. You became a child of God forever!
The Bible says you can know you are a Christian for three reasons:
"Yet to all who received him,….he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12, NIV).
"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children" (Romans 8:16, NIV).
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…." (Revelation 3:20, NIV)
Baptism is another part of God's special plan for you.
Baptism is when a minister places you gently under the water and quickly helps you back up. This does not make you a Christian. But as you are baptized, you show these three things.
Now that you are a Christian, God's special plan for you includes:
For the child making a step toward God
God loves you very much. Because you love Him, He will be your friend each day on earth and when you die you will live with Him forever in heaven.
But a day will come when you don't feel close to God. You will understand that you have sinned. Your sin has separated you from God.
When you feel that way, please talk to your pastor, Sunday School teacher, or another Christian (mom and dad?). They love you and will be happy to talk to you again about God's special plan for you.
