Reiki (or Tera Mai) is the healing touch I use. It is very gentle and client controlled. At no time can damage be done through this type of healing.

Energy is channeled by the practitioner to the client. Picture your toaster, that would be the client. The healer is the outlet on the wall. The toaster plugs in and does the actual work; toast, waffles, toaster pastries ... the client controls what goes into the toaster and then sets it for the job that needs to be done.

Reiki is the same. The work of healing is actually done by the client not the healer, we just provide the extra energy needed to get the job done. We do not at anytime direct the energies intentionally, we may pick up where the energy is being used and move in closer to the "target".

The energies may be used on any of three levels: physical, emotional or spiritual. The area the client deems to be the most important will receive the energy. Most clients come for relief from physical symptoms. The energy put into a sprain or strain will help the injury heal in record time. Breaks have to be seen by a doctor to be set before a treatment can proceed. If the bone is not set in the proper position it will begin to heal even though it is not ready to start that procedure yet.

For those with chronic illnesses, such as Arthritis or Fibromyalgia, the energy is used to relieve pain. It can also be used to dislodge toxins that have been caught up or lodged in the major organs such as kidneys or liver. In these cases the energy will be felt as a warm, soothing heat. This heat will relax the muscles that control the organ or cause the pains. This then allows for a better flow of fluids and energies in the body and the release of the pain.

When emotional healing is required, due to stress or abuse, the client will proceed when they are ready. If the person is not ready to face the emotional damage, caused by the abuse, they will not go there and the healing will have to wait. Reiki will help them soften the pain of the damage and they can then work on the healing process. They are never forced beyond what they can handle or accept. We just help them through and over the major hurdles. Emotional damage that has been buried without healing can fester and cause other problems, these show up as aberrant behavior or fear postures that cause problems in day to day life.

On the spiritual level Reiki can help to open the channels to that part of you called spirit or soul. The connection you want with your God. Until I was attuned with Reiki I never fully understood the Bible verse: "Be continually filled with the Spirit". Once that connection was made I could feel the Spirit moving through me. Another possible effect may be enhanced psychic ability.

Before I start a treatment I test the connection between me and the client. There may be factors that prevent a connection, one of them is fear. If the client fears the energy or what the healer is doing they will shut down the connection and the energy will not flow. This blockage is called a fear block. Fear can shut the flow right down. It is almost like the client slams the door and nothing is allowed through. If this happens there is nothing I can do until they come to terms with the fear. It happens very infrequently and usually because the client is a Christian and is unsure of what is happening or attributes it to the Devil.

For those that do not block the energies it is a very pleasant and sometimes a puzzling experience. Some have come to me as unbelievers (of the concepts) and left in amazement. For the test we join hands, they are asked to lay their hands on my hands, our palms touching. Within seconds the energy will begin to flow. The sensation is similar to touching something with an electric motor in it. The vibration, or buzzing may turn into a tingling usually felt at each others finger tips or right through the palms of our hands. At this point I can gauge how much energy they are drawing from me. Some have made the connection with me and suddenly realized they hunger for it. These people pull the energy from me so fast that I can feel the entry right up to my knees.

The people who are cautious about the energy will only draw a tiny amount in the beginning. It is all they will allow to start with. These ones just make the bottom of my feet barely vibrate. As time passes the amount they draw increases as their fear or skepticism of the energy passes.

From the beginning I have drawn the energy from the earth up through my feet and out of my hands to the client. The Earth being the Tera in Tera Mai. I also draw down from the "heavens" as there has to be a balance to the energy in order for it to flow. The flow is channeled in a large circle or circuit. With the client present this circle is easy to maintain.

For clients who are somewhere else on this planet the circuit is harder to setup but it is possible and with ability has become quite easy. I can tell when they are receiving as the energy flows from my hands. When they have had enough energy for moment the flow from my hands diverts and returns to the "heavens". This can be felt going out of the top of my head. For those of you who are skeptical I can give you the names of those who have felt the energy as far away as South Africa and Australia.

The energy flow is very similar to that of the electricity in a battery, if you understand how a battery works. The electrons flow in one direction only. For me it is from feet to hands or head. The energy is not stored though, I draw it up through me. The energy will also effect a compass, if I hold it in my hands it will always point to my head as being north. If I do not properly ground myself, which happened in the beginning, I can do damage to electronic equipment. This happened in my first year when I went to answer the Fax phone and fried the motherboard in it. For about six months I had to hug the fridge or touch the taps before touching my computer or fax machine.

It has been over a decade now and I have not fried anything in years. As with other things, practice puts your abilities into the realm of the subconscious and grounding has become natural. I no longer have to think about how to do it any more, it just happens.
