Tai See Tow Cantonese Fried Noodle, Lebuh Pudu.
The original 'Tai See Tow' (means below a big tree). This stall's Cantonese Fried Noodle and Singapore fried meehoon is excellent and has produced many fine cooks that carried the same name. As this stall is situated in a back alley, only tracker can locate this place. They have cut down the big tree that the stall is located.

Location: In the back alley between quick foto and magnum-ene of Lebuh Pudu; at Jalan Silang's end Opposite lorong Pudu. Open for lunch only.

Ong Lai Restaurant.
This 'restaurant' is actually a hawker stall located in back alley (between Bee Seng Hotel and Wilayah Hotel) with open air seating. Their steam fish Head is very popular and only open when there is enough supply of fish heads.

Hokkien Fried Mee, Jalan Bandar.
The BEST Hokkien fried mee in town. Waiting time can be up to 60 minute. Note: This stall has not been open for more than one year. Because the owner was injurded in an accident and is taking a long rest. Please e-mail us if you find this stall is back in business.

Low Yau Kee (Old Friend) Porridge at Jalan Bandar.
A very popular stall and probably serving the BEST porridge in town. Their fish, chicken and chee chap porridge and steamed chicken is excellent. We believe their porridge is cooked in chicken stock, is very sweet (with MSG added). The porridge can be sold out by 2000 hours on Sunday. So, go early.

Beef noodle at Star Light Hotel, Jalan Pasar.
This mum and daughters stall's beef brisket (ngau larm) noodle is one of the best in town.

Ngau Kee, Tingkat Tong Shin
This stall's beef ball noodle served with minced meat topping is popular and is one of the best in town.

This stall has moved to 25, Jalan 2/71, Taman TTDI.

 

Soo Kee Mee Stall, Off Jalan Imbi.
Again the shop owner was a cook from the original Lubuh Pudu 'Tai See Tow' but cooking is now done by his daughters. Their catonese fried noodle with fresh water prawn and fried hor fun with beef is excellent. However, we find their price expensive especially during the festive season and serving attitude is bad.

Shanghai Restaurant at JW Marriott Hotel
This new restaurant (in 1999) serve one of the best food in town. We tasted their lionhead (braised minced pork), braised white eels, chilled glutinous rice in pumpkin soup, beancurb village style and shanghai steamed dumpling, and find them excellent.

Golden Pheonix at Hotel Equatorial
We always look forward to visit this restaurant. We love their braised shark fin soup, shark fin in claypot (at RM130/person), barbecue ribs, belacan fried pomfret, Budda jump over the wall (at RM100/person), Japanese bean curb with vege, siziling venison, Peking duck, Aromatic duck, fried live US lobster with ginger and spring onion (at RM220/kg), steamed champagne crab (at RM160/kg), fried rice with salted fish and sweet yam paste. During winter and spring, giant crab (minimum size 7kg) is available at RM110/kg. Overhere, you can have a dinner for RM500 or more per person. Once, we had an abalone for RM1500 at this place. May be after patronage for nearly twenty years, with change of chef, occasionally we find their dishes are unable to meet our expectation. Hence, they are at the current rating.

Yee Foong, Loke Yew Flat.
A stall serving excellent home made fishballs and wanton. Apparently, the stall owner would not open shop if he can't find sufficient good fish for his fishballs. Hence, he put up his phone number for customers to call in to check.

Soon Kee Beef noodle, Jalan Silang.
This old shop serves an excellent minced beef and meat balls noodle.

Wei Kee Restoran.
This non aircond restaurant is the first in KL serving roasted goose and their roasted duck is excellent too. Apparently, these goose and duck are imported from China. Whole goose price from RM70.

Lien Bee Hokkien Mee.
This stall serve one of the best fried hokkien mee in town and is generally full from 8pm.

Restaurant Lee Tong Kee, Jalan Bandar.
This old shop is known for their ipoh hor fun. Although the soup is not as good as those in Ipoh but the hor fun is authentic from Ipoh, which is fine and smooth. Apart from hor fun we find their beef brisket and wanton good too.

Chinese Restaurant at New World Hotel.
We tasted their shark fin soup, fish, etc which are excellent. But too expensive to justify.

Nam Heong Chicken Rice, Jalan Sultan.
Used to be the best chicken rice in town. we believe there has been a changed in management (style?) and has affected their quality. Should try their beef brisket soup which is good.

Pan Mee, Lorong Haji Taib Off Jalan Raja Laut.
This pan mee stall is very popular. Daily output is in excess of 300 bowls.

This stall's pork meat noodle is the most well known in town.

Koon Kee Wantan Noodle, Jalan Cecil.
Probably the most well known wantan noodle place. We like their char siew, chicken and soey kow.

Pork Meat Ball Noodle at Weng Heng Coffee Shop, Jalan Imbi.
This stall pork meat ball is popular

Retoran Hup Yick (Fuzhou Fishball)
Hockchew (Fuzhou) food is rear in KL, this stall offer Hockchew fishball and red rice wine noodle. We find their foods unique; unlike conventional fishball, their fishball (at 60 cents each) has a meat core; red rice wine noodle is not too strong and dumpling has a very thin skin and solid filling.

The sambal/chilly steamed fish stall at Jalan Petaling.
The stingray, squids and prawns are our favourite. Food is usually served with ladyfingers cooked with spicy little shrimps.

Claypot Chicken Rice at Restoran Sin Hiap Seng, Pudu
This stall is over 20 years old and their claypot chicken rice and soup is good.

Ipoh Hor Fun Stall at Ching Hai Coffee Shop, Tingkat Tong Shin
We find the ipoh hor fun, prawn wanton and steamed chicken at this stall is one of the tops in town.

Kuan Kee Porridge, Jalan Pasar
This stall's porride is smooth and don't have that much msg. We like their fried intestine.

Thim Kee Steam Fish, Pudu Plaza.
A stall known for their steamed telapia and most tables ordered two fish. On our first visit, we ordered fried telapia topped with bean sauce, steamed fish head with herb, omelette and boiled veges. We find the fried telapia crispy, the steamed fish head's gravy sweet, the omelette is crispy on the outside and moist inside, and the price is cheap.

This shop's home made barbecue pork (char siew) is very popular among lunch crowds. As to have delicate store to serve seat-in and take away customers respectively.

Xin Cuisine, Concorde Hotel
Prices at this Chinese restaurant used to be expensive; due to current recession, they now (Nov 98) have 'all you can eat' for RM40 per head which is value for money. Generally, their food is good and dimsum is popular but pricey. The adjacent 'Crossroads' lounge with liveband is a popular spot for after dinner.

A chain restaurants with posh setting, a idea place for business lunch and dinner. Their quality is good and consistent.

This food stall is well known for their bbq chicken wing and their a la carte (cook to order meal) is popular too.

This Crown Princess Hotel Chinese restaurant specialize in Hunan dishes. We tried thier eel soup, etc and find them good. However, like all other Crown Princess' F&B outlets, their price is steep.

Restaurant Woo Lan.
Another popular place for steamed fish head (with olyster sauce and minced ginger). Other popular dishes are Vietnamese sotong (cooked with chilli and tomatoes, hence hot and sour), Hong Kong Tau Foo, etc.

We find this stall's chicken rice above average and their braised pork with yam, braised pork with preserved veg and pig stomach and pepper soup is good.

Lai Po Heen, Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
An expensive hotel retaurant. We savoured their dimsim for lunch eg har kau, siew mai, chicken feet, beef dumpling, rice parcels, egg tart, etc. Instead of mince meat as in other restaurant, they use whole meat, hence dimsum is chunky.

Celestial Court, Hotel Imperial Sheraton.
For two persons, we ordered steamed goby fish, fried vege with scallop, fried chicken with black pepper, hot and sour soup and mixed fruit. We find the food resonable but the price too expensive, need to compared with London's price to justify.

Tai Thong Dragon Court Restaurant, Plaza Berjaya.
Visited this restaurant for a family meal during 1999 chinese new year. We ordered one of the set menu and find the following to our liking; yeesan and fried rice with waxed meat. Service is quite prompt but reception can be a bit disorganize.

Ah Koong Eating House.
An up market fish ball noodle place with aircond seating and has quite a large variety of 'add on' e.g. abalone at RM50/pc, prawn at RM15/bowl, pomfret porridge at RM12/bowl, etc. We find their soup base quite good but the price is on the steep side.

Sun Foong Bak Kut Teh, Medam Imbi.
This bak kut teh shop is well established and is popular with tour operators. Instead just meat, their claypot bak kut teh comes with vegetables, etc.

This family run restaurant serve both Hakka food and Cantonese food. Their bean curd, hakka mee, fried beehoon with crab, taufoo, braised sea cucumber and steam boat is popular and resonable priced.

A very traditionally decorated restaurant serving not a bad dimsum and food. For dimsum, their pricing is cheaper than other hotels.

Bunga Raya chinese Restaurant: Not qualified for 1 star rating.

This stall claim their prawn mee is the old Singapore style. However, we find them unexciting.

Kedai Kopi Blue Boy
This coffee shop has about 7 stalls that serve vegetarian foods only. A few years ago, before turning vegetarian, the fried koay tew was one of the best in town.

This is a Hong Kong style restaurant. Their speciality are shark fin, roast pig, peking duck, etc. We find their food conventional.

BB Seafood Garden
We visited this place for a lunch and ordered baked snail, fried ostrich with back pepper, claypot taufu, fried kailan and steamed cod fish. We find the food ok.
