Genealogy
My
maiden name is ROOS and
"These
are my Ancestors"
I
started tracing my ancestors in August (1999)
I now have 9 generations thanks to Ulla and the people who helped me in my search
My Great Great Grandfather Jan-Peter Jonsson had our name changed to Roos
He got his
name Roos from the captain when he was recruited for the
services. Jan-Peter served for rote (the military ward or
station) no 65, Bergane, Tössbo Company no 7, Västgöta-Dals
Regiment. That was an infantry regiment. When a man became a
soldier, they could not keep their patronymicon, because when the
officer should command his company, too many had acted if he
called Andersson or Petersson etc.
The system of names in Sweden was called patonymicon. It ended in
the late 1800's.
The last name was the fathers first name + son or dotter.
