Sevendust w/ Reveille and Breaking Point at the Water
Street Music Hall in Rochester, NY - 4/5/02
Fuckin' crazy. That's what I have to say about
this show. I walked away with absolutely no
voice, scrapes and bruises, drenched in sweat
(and I do mean drenched) and absolutely spent. It
was definitely a night to remember. I was really
pumped - I had been listening to all three bands
for a while to get ready for the show. I got to
Water Street in the middle of Breaking Point's
set; just a reminder, if you have Will Call
tickets, do not wait in line with everyone else,
ask a line attendant where Will Call goes and
you'll probably end up waiting in a much shorter
line. Breaking Point was pretty good, and the
crowd seemed to like them. Unfortunately, the
crowd didn't really give a fuck about them since
they had two powerhouses coming up next.
Nevertheless, they did a good job of getting the
crowd into the show. Set included One of a Kind,
27, Falling Down and Coming of Age. Next came
Reveille, and I stayed in the very front for the
whole set, which I'm gonna say was about an hour.
I can only remember bits and pieces of the set,
but I do remember it was one of the most intense
and exhilarating experiences I've ever had. I
think I was about 3 to 5 feet from Drew as he was
screaming out lyrics, which was definitely cool.
From what I can remember, the set included these
songs, and probably some others that I can't
remember: Unborn, What You Got, Permanent, Inside
Out (the new version, which I could care less
for), Modified Lie, Bleed the Sky, Catarax and
others. They definitely brought the house down,
and the crowd, although there mainly for
Sevendust, gave Reveille a great cheer for a
great performance. Then came the big guns. The
way Sevendust started the show was, I thought,
very creative and got everyone all ancy and
anxious for the band to come out. When everything
was set and no one was on the stage, a banjo song
came on the speakers. It was a nice little song
and the crowd got into it and started clapping
along. And the song went on and seemed to finish,
but sort of trailed off into a noisy, yet still
comprehendible sound that got everyone wondering.
All of a sudden Clint stepped out, and we saw
that he was playing the lingering notes - they'd
meshed the banjo track with his guitar to create
a really original intro. Of course, the crowd
went nuts, and the rest of Sevendust came out one
by one as they always do to begin the set. The
songs I remember them playing were Bitch, Trust,
Black, Crucified, Angel's Son, Waffle (I think),
Home, Praise, and Redefine (I think). After
seeing Sevendust perform, I knew I'd being seeing
many more shows from them, as they had an even
better stage presence than Reveille. By the end
of the night, I knew I'd gotten my money's worth
and more from this show. What a night.
Reveille w/ Eastcide, 7th Rail Crew and Carv at the Palladium
in Worcester, MA - 12/29/01
This show would have been awesome had the other 3
bands not been there. Well, maybe I'm a little
harsh, I thought Carv did a fairly good job. The
others, however, were horrible. I stood in the
back and watched the stagnant crowd bob their
heads to the crappy noise the first three bands
pumped out. I really tried to just block it out
and waited painfully for Reveille to pick up the
pieces. And they did. I wasn't sure what to
expect from a live show, this being my first, but
I was happy to learn that Reveille live is an
adrenaline rush like no other (obviously I'm
biased, but hey, it's the truth). They played
mostly songs from Laced (Judas, Permanent, Flesh
and Blood, Phoenix, etc.) and threw in a track or
2 from their new album at the time (Inside Out
and What You Got were the only two I believe).
I'm not gonna put the show as being good or bad,
but it wasn't what I expected.
