: Always a tricky situation, deciding if someones stolen your avatars or just used the same source.
: We always recommend that an avatar creator adopts a simple naming scheme for their avatars, eg, dd001 or mike1, mike2, etc
: This makes it easier to track theft since alot of people posting avatars as their own dont change the filenames.
: About 75% of avatar theft claims made to the guild are innocent mistakes by newbies, only a few people create sites from other
: peoples work deliberately.
: : The other day I came across a site that
: : I thought had my avatars on it! So I
: : contact this person, and of course she
: : really upset with me of accusing her!
: : Well it turned she and I both use the
: : same materials to make our avatars with.
: : We both scan from the same catalogs! I
: : guess you can say we both have excellent
: : taste!
: : And yes I did apologize to her! I felt
: : kinda dumb about really!
: : With scanners becoming more affordable,
: : more and more people are using them to
: : make avatars with. (Personally I love
: : my scanner!)
: : And usually folks like to make sexy
: : avatars so the same materials are being
: : used over and over again. So it makes
: : it kinda tough to decide if the avatars
: : are really stolen or if they just had
: : the same idea as you.
: : Just food for thought!

Hi Everyone! When I come across a Gallery, and
the avs look suspicious, I ck the file name. I have
come across AVS with file names from other gallerys.
The thief doesn't even bother to change the filename.
So, like Devalin says....if we all use our unique
file name for our avs in our Gallerys, it will save
the confusion somewhat. But of course, a lot of
smart thieves change the names. So ....that will make
it harder.
