Mike and I met in Boston, March 22, 1997. I was there for an Alpha Kappa Alpha Regional Convention. He was there selling AKA paraphernalia. Also, one of his friends, William Blackburn, was living there. William's fiance, Kim, had just had a baby, Taqee, (Mike's Godson). My friend, Yvette, and I were walking around looking at the vendors. Mike starting tallking to us, trying to sell us an ugly scarf. Somehow we started talking and discovered that we were both teachers in Washington, DC. In fact our schools were no more than 10 minutes from each other! Yvette and I invited Mike and his friends to a party the sorority was giving that evening. They came, we danced, talked, had a good time. Well, when I say "we" I don't mean Mike. He was sitting with some other girl. (He claims she was a "friend"). About a week after we returned home, Mike called me. We talked on the phone for about 2 months before finally deciding to actually go somewhere together. We went to see "The English Patient" and ate at the Cheesecake Factory. Afterwards, he came over and we talked until about 3 in the morning. On December 31, 1999 I found a sparkling ring in my champagne glass...
