A child is like a ship on the sea,
That withstands the mighty gales;
You can't direct the wind,
But you can always adjust the sails.

WHAT CHILDREN LEARN

Ever wondered what this world is coming to,
With all of the wickedness that now abounds?
What are we teaching our precious children,
While evil makes its daily rounds?

Can we rightly expect our children
To behave, and abide by the Golden Rule...
When the Ten Commandments cannot be posted
And prayer has been taken out of their school?

Do we teach them there are consequences
For every bad deed they commit?
And for every action there is a reaction...
Or, is that the part we omit?

Dare we teach them there is a price to pay
For every misdeed they do to another?
Or do we let someone convince them that
For everything they do there is a cover?

Are they experimenting and unaware
Of the harm that drugs can do?
Peer pressure is much harder today
Than it was for me and you.

Have we taught them that integrity and honor
Are two things that go hand in hand?
Do we teach them responsibility with money
Before they go out and make that grand?

Have we taught them to respect others,
No matter what the race or creed?
Or do they watch us walk over people
In our daily path of haste and greed?

Do we teach them not to cheat and lie
In order to get a good grade or to win?
Even if some of their friends choose to,
Doesn't mean that they should give in.

Do you spend time with your kids
And include them in your work and play?
Just remember, what goes around
Will come back around to you one day.

Our children are our legacy...
We need to think about this a little more.
Let's spend quality time in raising them
Before their final exit out the door.

Do you love and hug them every day?
Do you tell them how you really feel?
Do they see your compassion for others?
Do they know how to help a soul to heal?

Have they heard that there is a God,
And do they know His grace and love?
Do they know how to get on their knees
And pray for forgiveness from above?

Do they know that they can have faith
That God will meet their daily need?
And He will, according to His riches in Glory,
If only they have faith of a tiny mustard seed.

Have you taught them that even in difficult times
We should give thanks to Heaven above...
And that those times are when God is closest
And wants to reveal to us His sweet love?

Have we strived to set the right example,
Or have we just lived our lives carefree...
In hopes that they'll somehow turn out alright
In spite of the influence of you and me.

Have we taken time to explain to them
That they'll reap the seeds they've sown?
Now is the time to teach our kids,
Not later when they're already grown.

Do we daily in our hectic lives
See just what we want to see...
Without a thought of what might happen
Or what our kids will turn out to be?

Have we given them a solid rock to stand on,
And taught them to run an honest race?
Then, and only then, can we have confidence
That its God's Word they will embrace.

TODAY I TAUGHT MY CHILD

When I got mad today and hit my child
"For his own good", I reconciled,
and then I realized my plight...

Today, I taught my child to fight.

When interrupted by the phone,
I said, "tell them I'm not home."
And then I thought, and had to sigh...

Today I taught my child to lie

I told the tax man what I made,
forgetting cash that was paid,
And than I blushed at this sad feat...

Today I taught my child to cheat

I smugly copied a cassette,
To keep me from one more debt,
But now the bells of shame must peal...

Today I taught my child to steal
.

Today I cursed another race,
Oh God, protect what I debase,
for now, I fear it is too late...

Today I taught my child to hate

By my example, children learn
That I must lead in life's sojourn
In such a way they are led

By what is done and not what is
said.

Today I gave my child his due
By praise for him instead of rue.
And now I have begun my guide;

Today I gave my child his pride
.

I now have reconciled and paid
to IRS all that I have made.
And now I know that this dear youth,

Today has learned from me about truth
.

The alms I give are not for show,
And yet, this child must surely know
That charity is worth the price;

Today he saw my sacrifice
.

I clasp within a warm embrace
My neighbor of another race.
The great commandment from up above.

Today I taught my child to
love.

Someday my child must face alone
This fearsome undertone,
But I have blazed a sure pathway:

Today I taught my child to pray.

Uncle Jerry 1994

Life is changed, not taken away.
To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the companies that we work for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think?
So what is behind the story? Do you know what the word
FAMILY means?

Father  And  Mother,  I  Love  You
