     The 10th Air Force Began operating B-24's during the month, the first use of heavy bombers in China coming on the 21st with a raid against coal mines at Lin-Hsi. While the raid failed in its objective of flooding the mines by knocking out nearby power stations and pumping facilities, it still managed to cause considerable damage to the target area. The Lin-Hsi raid was the first AAF strike north of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers. On the 25th B-25's led by Col. Merian C. Cooper bombed the Kowloon Docks in Hong Kong, the B-25's and escorting P-40's were intercepted by 21 Japanese fighters, US loses consisted of 1 P-40 and 1 B-25, the Japanese interceptors were virtually annihilated. This action was followed by a second raid on Hong Kong the night of the 25th/26th which hit the North Point power plant, also bombed was the secondary target in Canton. On the 26th the Hong Kong-Canton area was again bombed, this time by P-40's using dive bombing tactics.

     In India, Japanese aircraft attacked airfields connected with the the India China air transport route on the 25th and 26th, bombing Dinjan and Chabua fields and scoring hits also at Mohanbari and Sookerating.

     The India Air Task Force (IATF) was activated on the 3rd under the command of Col. Caleb V. Haynes. This task force consisted of the 7th Bomb Group (H), the 51st Fighter Group, and the 341st Bomb Group (M), all based in Karachi.

The 9th Bomb Squadron (H) returned to Karachi from Lydda, Palestine on the 5th.

Headquarters 52st Fighter Group and 26th Fighter Squadron moved from Karachi to Dinjan on the 10th.

The 11th Bomb Squadron (M) moved a detachment from Kunming to Nanning on the 24th.

The 492nd Bomb Squadron (Heavy), 7th Bomb Group (H), arrived at Karachi, India from the US with B-24s; and the 493d Bomb Squadron (H) was activated at Karachi and assigned to the 7th Bomb Group (Heavy) on the 25th.
