Abuse. It's something that has been around for ages. Everyone does it sometime, and likewise, we must try not to do it. But, what exactly is abuse? That is what I will tell you next. Note: This page does not get graphic, so it is appropriate for anyone to read.
What is abuse? People sometimes forget the proper care to give an animal. Say someone puts their cat in the attic to scare away mice. Five hours later, they think, "Shall I let the cat down to eat?" But, it is easy to think; it is hard to do. Why? Laziness, or the lack of caring. Pets don't have certain feelings. Humor, or self-pity are some of them. But pet's do feel pain. Some people allow their laziness to control whether or not their pet eats or not. It'd be better to give that pet away. What would happen to that cat? Hunger. Pain. Death. And why? Laziness. Or because someone just plain doesn't care.
But, not only laziness causes abuse. Take my story for instance. I was in that pet shop eating parakeet seed. Am I a parakeet? Heck, no! I'm a cockatiel. I should eat cockatiel seed. Sure, cockatiel seed has some parakeet seed in it, but cockatiel seed also has sunflower seeds, grains, and nutrition a cockatiel needs, but a parakeet does not. Now, the pet shop had about twenty parakeets, seriously, twenty. And, two cockatiels. So, since the majority of birds was parakeets, they bought parakeet seed only. Had there been twenty cockatiels and two parakeets, the parakeets would've gotten cockatiel seed, if that was cheaper. But, since I am now hooked on parakeet seed, my owner is having to work very hard to change my diet.
Though, there are more forms, too. I'll tell you the rest now. This last definition is the saddest and most unbelievable of all.W hat is it? Cruelty. Out of shere meaness, people will abuse pets. Lock them in basements, in closets, attics. Give them dirty water in a dirty bowl, give them the wrong food, or, no food at all. Sometimes, laziness, or being cheap will do this. Other times, cruelty and meaness does it. How can someone find entertainment in this? Please, don't ever, ever do this! If you know of someone who is depriving their pet of food or water, or locking them up, or keeping them tied up all day, it would benefit that animal to contact the police. And, do not ignore your pets! Birds, dogs, cats. Especially birds and dogs, who need attention as much as food, for some reason. What happens if a bird is abused? I wish this were not true, but a bird can, and will, go mentally insane, literally. What do they do? They need activity! Mind stimulation. And, if they can't find it from you, they will find it in themselves. They will hurt themselves, chew up their legs, and pluck out their feathers, just to be busy, doing something. They will repeat the same movements over and over. My owner says that, while in a pet shop, saw some parrots. An Amazon was repeating the same pattern of movements, non-stop. Waste was on his food cup. He had missing feathers from plucking them out. An African Grey bird continued moving across the side of his cage, over and over. Paint was missing where he had scraped it away with all his repeated patterns. Cockatiels, although there were five of them, were sitting on perches swollen eyed. Cockatiels in captivity need more attention than eachother. They need human contact. If you were in a cage all day, wouldn't you want to talk to someone else besides those who lived there with you once in a while? Of course you would. What happens to dogs? If a dog has no play mates, be it another dog or a human, he will sleep all day. This is just boredom, not insanity. If your dog is insane, he will chew up gates to get out, or do odd things. I'm a bird, after all, so I am not fully versed in what a dog or a cat would do. We once had a dog named Fortune. He had the personality of a shar pei, and the body of a rottweiler. He needed space to run and play, like a ranch, or a house with acres of land.We don't have acres. We are in the middle of the city, so Fortune was going insane. He was not happy. We loved Fortune, and did not want to give him up, but we had to give him a decent home, so, someone bought him. Even though we wanted Fortune, we gave him up. Why? Because he was not happy, and we wanted him happy. If we kept him because we wanted him, we would have abused him. Learn to let go of the pets you love so they can be happy. How can someone possibly be happy if their pets are being tormented? I do not understand it. Please, do your part it getting rid of abuse. How?
