Our
objective is to breed genetically sound labs that are as pleasing
to hunt with as to have in the house. Labbies are meant to be family
members. We, of course, take into consideration the American Kennel
Club standards for confirmation. However many labs have been made
to fit into either the confirmation category or the hunt test category,
with neither neither breeder taking into consideration the part
of the AKC standard that also states labs are to retrieve and be
gun dogs as well as their standard description. I am not a proponent
of breeding show stock to hunt stock. This does not solve the dilemma,
only
"waters down" each breeders purpose for the breeding.
I do believe confirmation persons need to breed dogs that show a
desire to hunt, and hunt test persons should pay more attention
to the confirmation of the dogs they breed. Temperament to me
is foremost. Who cares how pretty a dog is if it cannot fit into
the family, or is not a joy to spend a day afield with as a companion?
Thus the name Happy Tails.
