Obedience Classes and Exercises Required
Sub-Novice A & B
Heel, Figure 8, Stand for Examination, Recall, Long Sit (1 min), Long Down (3 min). All exercises will be preformed on leash.
Novice A & B
Heel on leash, Figure 8 on leash, Stand for Examination off leash, Heel Free, Recall off leash, Long Sit (1 min off leash), Long Down (3 min off leash).
Graduate Novice A & B
Heel Free & Figure 8, Moving Stand & Examination, Moving Drop on Recall, Dumbbell Recall, Recall over Broad Jump, Long Down (3 min, Handler out of sight). All exercises will be preformed off leash.
Open A & B
Heel Free & Figure 8, Drop on Recall, Retrieve on Flat, Retrieve over High Jump, Broad Jump, Long Sit (3 min, Handler out of sight), Long Down (5 min, Handler out of sight). All exercises will be preformed off leash.
Graduate Open A & B
Signal Exercise, Drop on Recall, Directed Retrieve, Moving Stand & Examination, Retrieve on Flat, Retrieve Over High Jump, Broad Jump. All exercises will be preformed off leash.
Summary of Progression in Obedience Classes
Sub-Novice A - 1 year, then move to Sub-Novice B
Sub-Novice B - 2 years maximum with same dog unless class winner, then move to Novice A
Novice A - 1 year, then move to Novice B
Novice B - 2 years maximum with same dog unless class winner, then move to Novice A
Graduate Novice A - 1 year, then move to Grad Novice B
Graduate Novice B - 2 years maximum with same dog unless class winner, then move to Open A
Open A - 1 year, then move to Open B
Open B - 2 years maximum with same dog unless class winner, then move to Grad Open A
Graduate Open A - 1 year, then move to Grad Open B
Graduate Open B - Can repeat this class with same dog regardless of winning.
Exhibitors must continually progress to a higher level of obedience training with the same dog. Any previous participants in classes Sub-Novice A, Novice A, Graduate Novice A, Open A, and Graduate Open A may not enter the same class ever again. First place winners of Sub-Novice B, Novice B, Graduate Novice B, and Open B are not permitted to repeat the same class with the same dog.
Participants in Sub-Novice B, Novice B, Graduate Novice B, and Open B can show in these classes a maximum of two years with the same dog, unless winning first place. Participants who win first place in Graduate Open B can repeat this class every year with the same dog.
